Lowering your emissions through innovation in transport and energy infrastructure Independent | Not-for-profit | Experts
About us
Cenex was established as the UK’s first Centre of Excellence for Low Carbon and Fuel Cell technologies in 2005. Today, Cenex focuses on low emission transport & associated energy infrastructure and operates as an independent, not-for-profit research technology organisation (RTO) and consultancy, specialising in project delivery, innovation support and market development. We also organise Cenex Expo, the UK’s largest innovation event that stimulates ideas, showcases the latest leading-edge technology, and brings together people driving the net zero and connected automated mobility future. Our independence ensures impartial, trustworthy advice, and, as a not-for-profit, we are driven by the outcomes that are right for you, your industry and your environment, not by the work which pays the most or favours one technology. Finally, as trusted advisors with expert knowledge, we are the go-to source of guidance and support for public and private sector organisations along their transition to a zero-carbon future and will always provide you with insights and solutions that reduce pollution, increase efficiency and lower costs. Together, we can lower your emissions through innovation in transport and energy infrastructure.

Ooooh how we LOVE the Local Authority special! What an absolute treat to hear from Cenex, Bristol City Leap and IVECO about case studies and examples of HOW to electrify, HOW to close that Public/Private sector gap, HOW to ensure robust procurement processes for a future proofed network of EV charging for all use cases and HOW to fund it. Huge thanks to Chris Rimmer, Lloyd Allen, Mike Cutts and of course the merry crew John Curtis 🚗 ⚡️ Jonny Berry⚡️ Paul Kirby ⚡ Sam Clarke ⚡ and Sara Sloman for bringing this subject to life No one won a mug!!!! ☕️ #Collaboration #communication #electricvehicles #Infrastructure

🚚🔋Are you in charge of a fleet and looking ahead to the future of EV charging? 🔋🚚 Cenex is working on an Innovate UK project focused on exploring the possibilities of shared EV charging for commercial vehicles at private depots. The project aims to provide fleets with access to a shared depot charging infrastructure, changing the way we power our vehicles. As part of this research, we’re surveying to gather critical insights from fleet operators like you. Your input will help: ● Identify the charging needs and gaps in the current infrastructure. ● Enhance our "matchmaking" platform to connect fleets with suitable charging depots. 🔗 Ready to shape the future of fleet electrification in the UK? Take the survey here: https://lnkd.in/enKMeTZD All information collected in the survey will be treated in accordance with Cenex’s GDPR policy and will be anonymised unless specific permission is given (https://lnkd.in/esZVMBtX). #NetZero #Transport #Infrastructure #Fleets #fleetmanagement #fleetoperations Paua | Oxfordshire County Council | Suffolk County Council

In an attempt to challenge the belief that electric vehicles can't handle long distances in South Africa, a group has started an electric vehicle road trip from Johannesburg to Cape Town! Covering over 2,200km and showcasing EVs' ability to traverse tough terrains like the Swartberg Pass, this journey is part of the celebration of 100 years of vehicle manufacturing in South Africa and a push for the EV transition across the continent. Walking the talk in transport electrification for SA | Part time grappler (brown belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu) | Working to design my own creative experience
One of the more interesting comments I get for why somebody is unwilling to considering getting an #electricvehicle goes something along the lines of "because I go to X on weekends I'm going to stick with #ice". There is still this perception that living in #southafrica travelling long distances is not something you can do in #electricvehicles and is reserved for the likes of #petrol #diesel engines but is this indeed the case? In just under 2 days 10 adventurous individuals (including yours truly) from all walks of life will be coming together as part of the lead up to the naamsa | The Automotive Business Council #SAAutoWeek conference, embarking on a 4 day journey across #southafrica travelling over 2,200km to find out exactly how far you can go with an #batteryelectricvehicle. During this epic adventure the convoy will be represented by vehicles from five different #oem's consisting of #BMWiX #BYDSeal #MercedesEQ #VolvoXC40 #VWID4Pro who will challenge traversing the #swartbergpass, testing the real-world range of the participating vehicles and proving that you are indeed able to get to remote locations over long distances in #southafrica in an #electricvehicle. The road trip will be documented through social media channels and also dedicated videographers joining us on this journey, so keep an eye out for the hashtags #SAAutoWeek #NEVRoadTrip #EscapingTheNoise over the coming days to follow the action and see how we navigate this journey! 🔌🚗 Yesterday, we kicked off a new cohort of the Electric Vehicle Infrastructure (EVI) training course by bringing together local authorities with diverse expertise and experience. This dynamic gathering aimed to foster relationships that will support the implementation of local EVI initiatives, both in the short and long term. 🎓⚡ Participants were presented the opportunity to network, learn about the course's objectives, and take part in a hands-on field trip where they drove and charged an electric vehicle (EV). During this immersive experience, we encountered real-world challenges related to public infrastructure, highlighting the practical aspects of our discussions. The engaging nature of the event fostered enthusiastic participation, and we are confident that attendees gained valuable insights and forged meaningful relationships that will benefit them in the future. 🚗🔋 At Cenex, we're gearing up to release our TEIDE model—an innovative tool for forecasting the future of en-route electric vehicle (EV) charging. Earlier this year, we surveyed over 300 EV drivers, here are a few insights: • 12% of respondents can't reliably charge at home, showing just how vital en-route charging is. 🏡 • The top driver priority when selecting a charging station? Toilets came first, followed by a cheaper kWh rate. 🚻 • 55% of EV users only rely on en-route charging when their range won’t reach the destination. ⏳ We used this data, alongside traffic and mapping insights, to build on TEIDE—our tool for predicting future charging demand. Stay tuned for the launch, and in the meantime, get in touch if you'd like to learn more: https://lnkd.in/eH9g-Y9W #NetZero #Transport #Infrastructure #EVCharging #EnRouteCharging #MotorwayCharging

♻️🚛 Surrey’s journey towards fleet decarbonisation has taken a major step forward with the help of Cenex’s expert modelling and research. Working alongside the Surrey Environment Partnership, we developed a Fleet Decarbonisation Scenario Model which helped assess over 400 vehicles, ranging from small commercial vans to 26t refuse collection vehicles. ♻️🚛 🌲 Our analysis provided Surrey’s local authorities with insights into potential cost savings, emission reductions, and infrastructure requirements for transitioning their recycling, waste, and street cleansing vehicles to zero-emission alternatives. Surrey now has a clear path forward for reducing carbon emissions while navigating the challenges of fleet electrification.
