On Wednesday twenty of us gathered for Dugout Dinner London #4, our biggest London dinner yet, and it was pretty great!
Thanks so much to everyone who made it along to The Conduit in central London, including The Peer Space collaborator Ben Bryant, Soraya Allana, Paul Walker behind the camera, our 100th 'new era' open diner Kevin Davis - who got a bottle of bubbly for it, our next speaker for Dugout Dinner London #5, Damon Bowen-Ashwin, and everyone else who made it.
Because it was also my birthday I was very happy that my daughter Ani - Anna Mess could also join us for the evening, and for me for lunch too! :), as she has been in town at the London Short Film Festival. That was really special for me!
Most of all I want to show my appreciation to Sally Wood ACMA CGMA who opened up and shared her story in the speaker slot. Sally spoke about her early years growing up in Yorkshire, about a memorable teacher who spotted her potential and encouraged her on her path to Oxford. About navigating her time there and how it changed her, and how as a 20ish year old she found herself working in a local HMV store, and loving it.
About how that ultimately led to almost three decades in that business, one of the UK's largest retailers at the time, where she rose eventually to the role of FD, at a tumultuous time for the business, sharing how she navigated challenging times there and her involvement in decisions with thousands of jobs at risk, and all the very human implications and moments involved in that. How eventually, with the help of her long term, supportive partner she eventually made the big decision to break away from the business just short of 30 years since walking into that first store.
Finally Sally spoke about how leaving a few years ago has opened up a new chapter in her life and career, and how with the help of a good coach she has been able to do more and more now of what she really wants to do.
As I've been working with Sally for four years now it felt such a fitting talk for our first Dugout Dinner of 2025. 👏 👏
And since putting together such events is one of my favourite things to do it also made it a pretty epic birthday too!
😊
Thank you to The Conduit for looking after us so well and to Browns Brasserie Covent Garden for hosting the pre-drinks.
We are back with Dugout Dinner London #5 on 19th Feb, in just under 4 weeks, where in his talk 'Brain-freeze, breathe and believe', Damon Bowen-Ashwin will be sharing his powerful story in the hope that it might help a few more people believe that we can do absolutely ANYTHING we put our minds to, when we create the right conditions.
So if the journey to finding your super power is on your radar or is a topic that appeals, register interest for the dinner / book your seat at the Eventbrite link here - https://lnkd.in/eewxKqi8
