We've been made aware of someone claiming to be from Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service who has been knocking on doors in the Widnes area asking residents for money. If you do get a visit like this, please be aware that it's NOT Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service and you should not provide payment details. Our staff do regularly carry out visits to homes and businesses but will always be in uniform and carry ID badges, so please make sure you ask to see the ID badge. We were delighted to award Watch Manager Sean Hooper a prestigious Chief Fire Officer’s Commendation for his actions while off-duty to save the life of a woman who was found unresponsive in the River Mersey. After rowing practice in the river earlier this year, Sean and his training partner were alerted to someone in the water. Expecting someone to be in difficulty, what they found was a woman lying face down in the river. Sean entered the water and brought her to land, administering vital first aid until the arrival of police and paramedics. Well done Sean! 👏👏
