Have you discovered 'Your Kaleidoscope' here at Chester yet? British artist Liz West returns with 'Your Kaleidoscope', which features two of the artist's works - Presence and Hymn to the Big Wheel. Known for her wide-ranging works which blur the boundaries between sculpture, architecture, design and painting, West creates works that are both playful and immersive. People may recall West’s stunning Our Colour Reflection which occupied the Cathedral Chapter House in 2018. Liz West is a British artist who graduated from Glasgow School of Art in 2007. West’s broad body of work encompasses wall-based artwork, sculpture, and site-specific installations. She creates vivid environments that mix luminous colour and radiant light, provoking a heightened sensory awareness in the viewer through her works. We're delighted to welcome her back to #Chester until Saturday 31 August 2024. Photo courtesy of Mark Carline Photography

As we continue to develop heritage skills in the north west, we're delighted to continue our support of the Cathedrals' Workshop Fellowship, and our Executive Director in her role as Chair of Trustees.

Cathedrals' Workshop Fellowship Thanks Departing Chair of Trustees and Welcomes New Appointment The Cathedrals' Workshop Fellowship (CWF) extends its deepest gratitude to Jackie Molnar, Chief Operating Officer of Salisbury Cathedral, as she steps down from her role as CWF Chair of Trustees. Jackie's leadership has been pivotal in advancing our mission of training stonemasons, joiners, and other craftspeople across the 13 cathedral member workshops. Before the official launch of CWF as a charity in August 2023, Jackie chaired the governance group, laying the foundation for our journey. Frances Cambrook, Executive Director of CWF, expressed profound appreciation for Jackie's contribution, stating: "Jackie's unwavering commitment to our vision embodies the spirit of collaboration and preservation that defines the Cathedrals' Workshop Fellowship. Her guidance and support before and after the charity's inception in August 2023, have been invaluable in shaping our journey." Reflecting on her tenure, Jackie remarked; "Serving as Chair of Trustees for the Cathedrals' Workshop Fellowship has been a privilege and a rewarding experience. Witnessing the tangible impact of our training programmes on both individuals and our cathedral communities fills me with immense pride. The dedication and passion of our craftspeople resonate deeply with the ethos of Salisbury Cathedral, where preserving heritage is at the core of our mission." As Jackie transitions from her role, CWF warmly welcomes Carolyn Bruce, Executive Director of Chester Cathedral, as the incoming Chair of Trustees. Carolyn's wealth of experience and unwavering dedication to furthering the CWF’s mission make her a fitting successor. Looking ahead, Carolyn emphasised the significance of sustaining support for cathedral workshops and delivering the Foundation degree and Foundation Certificate qualifications, both validated by the University of Gloucestershire. "I am deeply honoured to take on the role of Chair of Trustees for the Cathedrals' Workshop Fellowship. The work of the Fellowship resonates strongly with Chester Cathedral's commitment to craftsmanship and heritage preservation. I am excited to collaborate with our trustees, staff, and cathedral partners to ensure that the Fellowship continues to thrive and make a meaningful impact." As the CWF embarks on this new chapter under Carolyn's leadership, we reaffirm our commitment to nurturing skilled craftspeople and safeguarding Britain's architectural heritage for generations to come.
