Our neurology team are at it again with some incredible results! Meet Poppy ❤ Poppy suffered a possibly traumatic episode rendering her unable to walk due to a fracture of her neck. She underwent surgery with Simone Spinillo, one of our Specialists in Neurology, to stabilise the fracture and just 7 weeks post-surgery she can now walk on her own 🥰 We are delighted with Poppy's recovery and the dedication her owners have shown to her and her rehabilitation is remarkable. We would also like to thank our amazing team of nurses, interns and patient care assistants who also showed exemplary care of Poppy when she was hospitalised and who certainly contributed to her recovery. #cvsgroup #cvsreferrals #veterinaryneurology #veterinarymedicine #veterinaryneurosurgery #veterinaryorthopaedics #veterinarydiagnosticimaging

  • CONGRATULATIONS to our resident in neurology, Luis Villalonga, who recently won the European College of Veterinary Neurology’s Boehringer Ingelheim – Best Poster Presentation by a Young Neurologist in Training! 🥳 Well done Luis! We are super proud of you 💚 For those of you interested in his poster, you can see the images attached and here is a short summary: We have a thorough understanding of how to precisely localize lesions within the central nervous system of dogs. However, the cerebellum remains a particularly enigmatic region where localization is less well-understood. To address this gap, we are conducting a collaborative study with other veterinary centres to elucidate the clinical manifestations associated with cerebellar lesions, based on their specific topographical distribution within the cerebellum. The poster presented at the ECVN-ESVN Symposium is a descriptive study of cerebellar lesions in dogs, and represents the preliminary findings of our ongoing research. Our initial observations suggest that clinical signs, typically not associated with cerebellar disease, may in fact manifest in patients with cerebellar lesions. We hope to provide further insights into this subject over the coming months, once the full study is completed and published. #cvsgroup #cvsreferrals #veterinaryneurology #veterinarymedicine

  • On Monday our Physiotherapist Laura Easton visited Irby Veterinary Surgery to deliver some CPD on all things physiotherapy! 💚 The CPD was a general overview of physiotherapy including aims of treatment, what conditions would benefit from physiotherapy, physiotherapy assessment, treatment modalities used and some case studies. This was delivered to the staff at CVS practice Irby Veterinary Surgery. Aiming to provide information on the importance of Chartered Physiotherapists with Association of Chartered Physiotherapist in Animal Therapy (ACPAT) membership as part of the veterinary multidisciplinary team. • Last week one of our Specialists in Cardiology, Liz Bode, visited Melbourne Veterinary Centre Cannock to provide them with 1:1 echocardiography training. She thoroughly enjoyed meeting the team and providing this training to them, something which she loves to do. She is also Bennett-Williams Vets this week doing something similar. If you are in the North West/ Midlands area and would be interested in any similar CPD (or another topic of choice) for your practice please contact us info@chestergates.org.uk and we would be delighted to help! 🤓 #cvsgroup #cvsreferrals #veterinarymedicine #VeterinaryCPD #veterinarynurse #veterinarysurgeon

  • Recently, a 4 year old Afghan hound was referred to our cardiology service because of severe breathing problems. After some diagnostics tests our cardiology team identified that the cause of the clinical signs were due to a severe, spontaneous pneumothorax. CT revealed a large pneumothorax, and a pulmonary bulla was identified in the right cranial lung lobe. The bulla was thought to be the cause of the pneumothorax and the dog was transferred to our soft tissue service. The images show the severe reduction of the lung lobe in the right thoracic cavity compared with the left. Although there was a low volume pneumothorax on the left side too. Surgery successfully occluded the leak and the dog recovered and was discharged home for TLC. Cases like this demonstrate why a multi-disciplinary hospital is of benefit to many animals. One condition might turn into something else and it is comforting to know that Chestergates offers a comprehensive service covering cardiology, internal medicine, orthopaedics, neurology, soft tissue, and ophthalmology. #veterinaryimaging #veterinarysurgery #cvsgroup #cvsreferrals

  • We're back with another 'Meet the team' Monday ✨ This week we would like to introduce the newest member of our reception team, Emma! 💚 Emma has only been a part of the Chestergates family since July but has settled right in! She worked for 9 years as a medical administrator and as a phlebotomist were she gained invaluable experience working in a clinical and front of house setting in a busy hospital and medical practice. After moving to the UK in 2024, Emma wanted a change of setting and felt that she would like to work in a similar role, and with a passion for animals, she felt a career where she had a client facing role with the benefits of dealing with animals on a daily basis would be ideal. Emma was thrilled to be offered a role as a referral receptionist at ChesterGates! 💚 Here is what she said about her time at Chestergates so far... "What I love about my role so far is that I have the opportunity to look after the clients and guiding them through the referral process and supporting them throughout as we know it can be a distressing time for pet owners and their pets" In her free time, she enjoys looking after her 2 dogs, 3 cats and loves to go hiking as much as she can! 🐶🐱🥾 Click the link for more of our amazing team ⬇️ https://lnkd.in/e_YNxA5g

  • Recently we have had a number of retrobulbar masses referred to us for further exploration. Retrobulbar masses can be associated with dental disease, foreign bodies and neoplasia. In order to determine the extent and likely nature of the lesions CT with angiography is used. CTs are performed under the watchful eye of our imaging team, who are then able to perform further diagnostics as required under the same general anaesthetic or sedation. This means the patients that we see usually benefit from one anaesthetic rather than multiple which can happen if the CT were to be performed on an out-patient basis. This CT was from a Dachshund recently referred to our specialist soft-tissue service by Severn Edge Vets. In the image you can see a large mass causing some distortion to the face (*). Following CT, we performed an ultrasound guided removal of a foreign body, meaning that this dog's mass would resolve and the prognosis is excellent.
