Funding news 🎉 We are grateful to have received a £4,878 grant from the Theatres Trust Small Grants Programme supported by THE LINBURY TRUST. This grant will enable us to invest in a new lighting desk in our Performance Studio, which will be more energy efficient, accessible remotely and easy to use, giving artists more options to experiment and play when making work or holding classes and workshops in our space! This is the latest investment in CDS’s spaces - after our recent acquisition of mirrors! We’re committed to being one of the most affordable studio spaces in London for artists to make work and experiment and this latest upgrade, allowing artists greater access to using lighting, will be happening in the next few months - so next time you’re in the space, keep an eye out! • Green background with a yellow, pink, orange and blue border. At the top is a bold blue title, 'WHAT IS IT?'. Underneath is a paragraph: 'Solidarity Spaces are a quarterly online space in which organisations working in a specific area can come together to support each other, vent, and organise effective arguments to change the system. Organisational leaders often lack capacity for this organising, so we are starting to facilitate spaces instead - we will present data analysis, provide a snapshot of interesting opportunities, hold space for venting and focus on specific action and advocacy needed right now. ' At the bottom is a cluster of three BAP icons on the left and a BAP organising icon on the right.
    • Green background with a yellow, pink, orange and blue border. At the top is a bold blue title, 'WHO IS IT FOR?'. Underneath is a paragraph: 'Solidarity Spaces are for those working within small to mid-scale cultural organisations involved in generating income - usually organisational leaders or senior positions. This iteration of Solidarity Spaces is specifically for organisations in London. “Mid-scale” is not a precise category, our suggestion is that If you have a turnover of over £2M or, if you have a full-time senior development role in your organisation it is unlikely that this is the right space for you. If you’re not sure, come anyway! ' At the bottom is a cluster of two BAP icons on the left and an another BAP icon in the top right.

We will then send you the link and any further information. ' At the bottom is a cluster of three BAP icons on the right.

CDS Executive Director Reece McMahon shares some thoughts about our ongoing process of 'Transformational Governance' 👇

Executive Director at Chisenhale Dance Space

It's coming up to two years since I joined Chisenhale Dance Space as Director and I've been thinking a lot about the journey we've been on as an organisation. We launched our reimagined version of 'Artist Community' last year and since then have just had the most incredible 9 months connecting with and feeding off the energy of artists (70% of whom identify as marginalised in some way) who have come to our space to build community, their practice and try and influence change within the sector. To get to that moment, took a lot of work and restructuring behind the scenes - including unpicking historical and systemic structures and actively making space, new systems and process that could shift power to artists for us to achieve our vision of being truly artist-led. My brilliant colleague Frances (Artist Community Producer) and I were incredibly lucky to be a part of the Transformational Governance programme (led by an awesome Transformational Governance Stewarding Group) which came to and end at the end of 2023 - though the learnings and tools gained through it are being used every day. I wanted to share the transcript / video of the reflection interview we did with amazing Euella Jackson where we summed up the journey we've been on and shared some honest, open reflections on what we have learnt. Just some of the topics we cover include legal structures, paid and unpaid labour, the particulars of creating change in the arts sector and the importance of maintaining momentum. We'd like to see more organisations take up this knotty, but ultimately transformational work and so am sharing in the hope that even a snippet of it might inspire someone to think about embarking on a similar journey! READ HERE: https://lnkd.in/ePv8Z3yS (If you prefer to listen to / watch it - there is the recorded video of Frances, Euella and I here: https://lnkd.in/eqQuMvGm)
