Although it was only last week that we were talking about the STEP Private Client Awards 2024, now we have the pleasure of confirming to you all that in only a week, we're gratefully going to be attending the British Wills & Probate Awards 2024. It's October, and that means that it's Black History Month here in the UK. Throughout our history, we have had countless black Britons to thank for the impact they've made on this country, ranging from fundamental civil rights activism to incredible artistic ventures. From the remarkable contributions of figures like Mary Seacole, a pioneering nurse who provided care during the Crimean War, to Olaudah Equiano, an abolitionist whose powerful writings played a crucial role in the fight against slavery, there is no doubt that these figures and their efforts are woven into the fabric of this country. We also honour the efforts of Ignatius Sancho, the first Black Briton to vote in a parliamentary election, and Diane Abbott, the first black woman to be elected to the House of Commons. The trailblazing political legacies that they can boast are still an inspiration to this day. This month is one of reflecting on the past and the future. We must celebrate the achievements of the past, but we must also look to the achievements of future generations. What progress will we see in the coming years? How will change come about? Let’s engage in meaningful conversations, support Black-led initiatives, and ensure that the contributions of Black individuals are recognised and celebrated throughout the year. #blackhistorymonth #future #equality

Tomorrow is International Day of Older Persons! Older persons are the most underappreciated contributors to our society; from the wisdom they impart on us and the legacies they've built, to retelling us our favourite stories or always knowing where the best snacks are, older people in our lives always have a way to make things better. Days such as these are a reminder to all of us in our industry as to what we're working for, and whose lives we make an impact on. As advocates for older persons, we stand ready to help clients navigate important decisions that offer peace of mind for the future. Sometimes it's just not your day... At the STEP Private Client Awards yesterday, we didn't manage to bring an award home with us, having been shortlisted for Boutique Firm of the Year. Of course, that can't take away our pride in being shortlisted alongside such esteemed company for such a prestigious, global award. A massive congratulations goes to Fischer Ramp Buchmann for winning Boutique Firm of the Year, as well as to all the shortlisted and winning firms and individuals.
