We talk a lot about organising and organisers - but what does that actually involve? 🤔 As Daniel Mackintosh, Lead Community Organiser for West London Citizens, explains, community organising goes beyond campaign victories. It’s about creating the foundation for lasting change by strengthening relationships, developing leaders, and building collective power within communities. Take, for example, a group of parents who, through community organising, secured £78,000 to improve their local area. This story is just one example of how everyday people can come together to make change. 🔥

Excited about teaching & learning on our national online training over the next 3 days unpacking the craft of broad based organising! Great to be with Citizens UK staff + leaders from towns & cities across England & Wales, as trainees embark on completing the only accredited (by Birmingham Newman University) community organising course in the UK. Check out our different training opportunities for member organisations here: https://lnkd.in/dbESuzWH As the late Neil Jameson once said: "You don't quite know us, until you've completed our training!"

“We are all united, standing together for justice, dignity, and love.” 🤝 After the summer riots, Leicester’s community leaders took a stand - defying hatred with compassion & unity. Their message is clear: the city stands for kindness & inclusion. Read more from our Community Organiser, Zain Hafeez 👇 https://lnkd.in/ev73s6bE

Today The #Peterborough Citizens UK Leadership Team had our annual strategic leadership day. After 4years of making change together and gathering, today, it felt more than a "strategy day". What struck us most as a #Leadership Team is that we are here, together based on strong sense of shared #values, this is a powerful group of leaders in the City with a mission. Values of #caring more about the "just the 4 walls of their own organisation" but as #Peterborough as a whole City, a care and passion for the people within the City. We have woven #solidarity of common good between us and are committed to build civic-wide leaders of #change, strengthen organisations and make change. And we have achieved so much in 4years (another post to follow about that!) What this has led to is the creation of Peterborough's biggest #peoplepower alliance in the city. But we have ambitions to #grow and can't wait for the next 5years working together in trust and solidarity. Being part of the Peterborough Citizens alliance, we have shared vision for the City, solidarity in leadership and #allyship with one another. 🎉 We’re delighted that Funmilola Stewart, Trust Assistant Principal at Dixons Academies Trust, member of Bradford Citizens, has been selected to review the school curriculum with the Government! 👏🏽 Earlier this year, Funmi spoke at our General Election assembly, calling on politicians to join us in advancing racial equity in education, including curriculum reform, teacher training and addressing inequities in the teaching workforce. As an expert in her field and a passionate advocate for her peers and students, Funmi will be an outstanding voice on this panel. We’re incredibly proud to work together to promote racial equity in education! 📄 Read the full article: https://lnkd.in/dMf5diFH #Education #Leadership #Curriculum

Over the summer I had the privilege of taking a sabbatical. I wrote some reflections on our work with the NHS, in particular our work to co create a health movement called South London Listens. Grateful to all the hard work of colleagues at Citizens UK and across South East London Integrated Care System and South West ICS. You can read my reflections about the NHS giving community real power, about accountability, innovation and some genuine co production. See link in comments below. Lord Darzi's report this week is filled with a fair amount of gloom. Our work gives a sense of hope and possibility about how we can harness the power of communities to help tackle health and health inequalities together with the NHS. Huge recognition needs to go to: leaders of South London Citizens, particularly Rosemarie Mallett, Laura Marziale, Beverley W., Steve Lawrence, Lucy vyhnalkova (and hundreds more). NHS leaders Sir Norman Lamb, Ranjeet Kaile, Andrew Bland, Ann Beasley, Vanessa Ford, Neil Balmer, Danielle Perlman, Michael Bell, Martin Wilkinson, Tonia Michaelides, and of course my colleagues in South London Citizens.
