As a growing network of 10 schools that supports nearly 10,000 young Londoners, we now also have an incredible network of 70+ Local Board members - all volunteers - who play a vital role as stewards to their individual schools. Tonight we are delighted to have many of them join us for our annual Local Board Conference at the Guildhall, City of London Corporation. All City of London Academies Trust schools have been phone-free since 2017. Our founding academy CoLA_Southwark has recently teamed up with 17 schools in Southwark Council to take collective action to shift their pupils away from using smart phones due to the growing concern over there use among young people. “We were prompted to collaborate after seeing first-hand the negative impact of smartphones and social media on our children’s wellbeing and education,” said Mike Baxter, Principal of the City of London Corporation-led academy. “While the issues that we had to address typically occurred outside of school hours, it was often in school that these negative behaviours were exposed.” We welcome and support the initiative at Ormiston Academies Trust in creating a culture and focused learning environment. https://lnkd.in/eHHXHZf7
