Join us in celebrating 15 Years of City Year UK 🎉 2024 marks our 15th anniversary. In 2009 the City Year UK pilot started with seven trailblazing young volunteers who were inspired by a simple offer: ‘Give a year. Change the world - by supporting children in your own community’. Our organisation has since expanded in the West Midlands in 2013 followed by Greater Manchester in 2015. ⭐ Since 2009, City Year UK has trained and supported over 1,800 young adults to coach and mentor over 17,000 pupils in need of extra help and contributed to a positive learning environment for over 136,000 children. 🙌 To celebrate this momentous occasion we want to share inspirational stories from across those 15 years, demonstrating the incredible impact our mentors have made in the lives of the children and young people we serve. 🚀 Have you volunteered with us in the past or perhaps have had a City Year mentor throughout school who shaped who you are today? We'd love to hear from you. 🫵 🔗Head to our website to find out how you can get in touch with us and share your City Year story: https://lnkd.in/euCKe6Vk #CityYearUK #15Years #15thAnniversary #VolunteerImpact #MentoringMatters #EducationMatters #MakeADifference #InspiringStories #CelebratingSuccess

Tackling educational inequality through voluntary mentoring
About us
City Year UK is a youth social action charity which challenges 18 to 25-year-olds to tackle educational inequality through a year of full-time voluntary service. As mentors, tutors and role models in schools, they support pupils growing up in some of the most disadvantaged areas of the UK. The City Year experience empowers these exceptional and diverse young people to realise their aspirations and grow as leaders, both through their impact on children’s lives and through training, coaching and career development opportunities. City Year UK's volunteers are integral to the school day. They encourage pupils both in and out of the classroom to engage with and enjoy learning, while developing their own skills. Our volunteer mentors benefit from additional training, delivered by experts from across the education, business and voluntary sectors. City Year was first established in Boston, Massachusetts in 1988 and operates in 27 cities across America, as well as Johannesburg in South Africa. City Year UK launched in London in 2010 and has since expanded to the West Midlands and Greater Manchester.

Congratulations Natalie Pegden DHL Supply Chain for winning The Bridge Builder of the Year Award 2024. This award recognises Natalie’s dedication as a Bridge Builder mentor and the following quote from her City Year UK mentee demonstrates her impact: “Natalie has been the catalyst for me in beginning to think about career development and my future- and through the Bridge Builder program her support has been completely unwavering. I think Natalie deserves the Bridge Builder of the year award for her dedication to my progression. She is always on hand for support, takes my goals into consideration when planning our sessions and always takes time to arrange sessions with her colleagues which are so insightful and helpful. I honestly could not have wished for a better, more kind and caring Bridge Builder who has helped me develop and I can already see changes in my professional behaviour.” An extended congratulations to James Smith MBA, CMgr MCMI DHL Supply Chain and Rachel Watson DHL Supply Chain for your incredible support of this programme.
