A non-profit working towards health, equality and cohesion, and the creators of 32 Steps to Togetherness

About us

Enabling civil society organisations to survive and thrive, in order to serve the communities they know and love. We want communities to be healthier, more equal and more cohesive. And we believe civil society holds the key! Where public services have fallen short, civil society has complemented the gaps. What’s more, civil society organisations (CSOs) are often better placed support people and communities, because they are agile and trusted (and generally BRILLIANT!) However, they need support. Our mission is to support civil society organisations by being a reliable source of excellent support that is either affordable or free (grassroots organisations led by and for marginalised communities). Over the last four and a half years, our team of non-profit consultants has supported over 250 organisations advancing health, equality and social cohesion, through providing affordable or free support across the UK. We have come to realise that all the issues we work on have a shared root cause: lack of social connection and loss of community. Isolation and loneliness has a detrimental effect on individuals. What’s more, widespread loneliness leads to social fragmentation, which inhibits democracy. Therefore, without connection and community, we are unhappy, unhealthy, divided and disempowered. We've launched a major initiative called 32 Steps to Togetherness, based on a practical guide of 32 actions that we can all take to build connections - as individuals and as community leaders. We want to support, celebrate and inspire civil society organisations that are bringing people together in their respective communities across the UK - and we want to bring them together in a community of community leaders, which is united behind the 32 Steps vision and sharing 32 Steps to Togetherness in their respective communities.

This looks great stuff building peace and togetherness

🤷🏽♀️ How do we create a culture of peace in the UK? From the bottom up! ⬆️🆙🔝 👉Today is World Peace Day. 👉The theme this year is Cultivating a Culture of Peace. 👉 32 Steps to Togetherness hopes to inspire a behavioural and cultural ‘revolution’ at the grassroots in order to build connection, cohesion, tolerance and unity from the bottom up. How? 🧐 By leveraging leaders of grassroots organisations across UK - building as many partnerships as we can with different players working towards similar goals, albeit from different angles. 🕊️🕊️🕊️ Drop a peace emoji in the comments if you like this idea.

Are you a SOAS University of London student? Free tomorrow at 5PM? 😍 Starting university is a crazy time, and it’s natural to feel quite isolated and disconnected... Turns out this isn’t just a university thing. Disconnection and lack of community is at an all time high, and it’s affecting us all 🌍 💡 In fact, we’ve realised that almost all the problems we’re facing as a society come back down to the loss of connection and community. Isolation and loneliness is hell for the many individuals experiencing it, but widespread loneliness is also bad for society because it creates the conditions for division, inequality, and a weakened democracy. 💪 Do you, like us, want to foster the conditions for change, whilst building connection and community in your own life? Join a short and friendly workshop in the Paul Webly canteen, in partnership with National Multifaith Youth Centre: 🍒 Eat some yummy food and meet like-minded students from a variety of backgrounds. 🧠 Learn about the Psychology of Loneliness and how building connection, community and togetherness creates the conditions for systemic change. 👩🏿🤝👨🏽 Plan how to build your community at university, using the 32 Steps to Togetherness, so you can enhance your own well-being; 💪 Shape what we do on campus to foster connection and togetherness. 📅 Workshops are running on: Thursday 17 Oct, 5PM Thursday 24 Oct, 5PM Register here: https://lnkd.in/dWQdHkud 🙏 We had the best time in Welcome Week, speaking to over 200 inspiring students. Can’t wait to see some of you again very soon! 🧐

Join us for a lunchtime discussion with Grace Blakeley! 📅 Monday 28 October 📍 Online 🍽️ 12:00-13:15 ✍️ https://lnkd.in/e5aMiybn Do you think we can foster connection, community and solidarity through our places of work? We’re bringing together a diverse panel to discuss whether CAPITALISM is at odds with TOGETHERNESS, or… perhaps… we can align the interests of employers to build connections within and between communities through the workplace? Super proud that we will be hosted by our Togetherness Advocate Abigail Harrington, who’s put together a rock solid plan for a constructive conversation integrating a diversity of perspectives: 🔹Grace Blakeley, best-selling author of Vulture Capitalism (Simon & Schuster UK), 🔹Lola from Fairwork, 🔹Balaka from Unison, and 🔹[we hope] the CEOs of East London Business Alliance and Fair Finance. Thanks for your collaboration Bootstrap Charity and Business in the Community. Grateful to David Attisha and Cathryn Barnard 🌔 for helping us develop this idea.
