New analysis from Become shows that the number of care leavers facing homelessness has increased by 50% over the last five years. This figure has risen more than twice as fast as the overall number of homeless households, and fifteen times faster than the overall number of young people facing homelessness. Just a few weeks ago, the UK Government announced measures to better support care leavers, with those under 25 being given priority access to social housing and exempt from the requirement to have a link to the area to live there. https://lnkd.in/e3B9Y3yU #CareLeavers #CareExperienced #YouthHomelessness

The Baby Box Project initiative is helping to better support care leavers on their journeys to parenthood. Founded in 2020, the project supports new parents with useful supplies alongside access to information and support. More than 115 boxes containing essential items have been distributed so far and the box itself can even be used as a safe space for napping. The project also separately provides young parents with financial support to help them buy more expensive items, such as a cot, buggy or car seat. After helping so many young care leavers, the initiative is now partnering Baby Basics Warwick, British Baby Box Company, and Evelyn's gift to ensure that more care experienced parents can access the support they deserve. https://lnkd.in/eXmUT8en #CareLeavers #CareExperienced

Back in 2022, the Scottish Government published its Promise Implementation Plan. The Promise initiative is firmly rooted in its aim to eradicate child poverty and deliver high quality public services. Underpinning The Promise is the belief that if we can think, act and invest differently, the outcomes for looked after children and care leavers could be greatly improved. This new updated report gives an overview of work undertaken since 2022 and sets out how the promise will be achieved by 2030. It's truly incredible work and we can't wait to see the positive impact it brings for children, families and young people across Scotland. https://lnkd.in/eZFdWT3H #CareExperienced #CareLeavers #LookedAfterChildren
