🌍A Vision for Sustainable Tourism in Dubrovnik 🌍 Do not miss the video below of the Mayor of the City of Dubrovnik / Grad Dubrovnik, Mr. Mato Frankovic explaining how the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Dubrovnik and CLIA has been instrumental in tackling some of the city’s most pressing challenges: 🗣️"The Memorandum of Understanding with CLIA was crucial to our efforts. Our primary goal is to guide Dubrovnik back to sustainability, enhancing the quality of service for all visitors. The 'Respect the City' programme was launched of necessity to tackle overcrowding and manage the flow of tourists, particularly within the old city. This multidisciplinary initiative addresses various tourism activities, including cruise tourism, and acknowledges that the key to sustainability is effective tourism management." At #CLIA, we are honored to support Dubrovnik in this endeavor, especially through responsible cruise tourism. 🙌 This partnership has shown that by working together—local authorities, the tourism industry, and communities—we can achieve a shared vision of responsible tourism that maximizes cultural, economic, and environmental benefits. 🤝 As we celebrate World Tourism Day, let’s continue our commitment to responsible tourism that nurtures the places we love, preserving them for future generations. #WorldTourismDay #ResponsibleTourism #Dubrovnik #RespectTheCity #Partnership #CruiseTourism #CulturalHeritage

Great attending the #AdriaticSeaForum in #Ravenna organized by Risposte Turismo #CLIA was there with CLIA Italy National Director Francesco Galietti, PhD, who spoke about the many opportunities offered by the Adriatic Sea—which is expected to handle almost five million cruise passenger movements by the end of 2024—alternative itineraries, and ‘new size of ships’. 🛳️ 🌊 “Most ocean-going ships are small- to mid-size ships, 72% of the fleet. This shows how quickly the cruise demand is evolving and how much diversity exists within the cruise industry” | 💬 Francesco Galietti #ResponsibleTourism #Sustainability #WeAreCruise

📣#CLIA was thrilled to participate in the TIS - Tourism Innovation Summit in Sevilla, Spain last week! 🎤 Speaking on the panel on Cruise Ships and Sustainable Ports: Navigating the Future of Maritime Tourism, Nikos Mertzanidis, CLIA’s Vice-President, Ports & Destinations stated: “These efforts to reduce our impact on the environment must continue with a closer partnership between public authorities and ports and intensify, our determination is total so that cruising constitutes an ever more sustainable way of discovering the world”. Our industry is making clear investments in ships that will be able to use the law to net zero-emission fuel once it is available at scale: ⚓The cruise industry has invested in LNG technology for over a decade to cut SOx and NOx emissions. ⚓Currently, 19 cruise ships are equipped with LNG engines, marking significant progress toward cleaner maritime operations. CLIA member cruise lines are leading the way in sustainable ship design with investments in flexible engines that can use renewable biodiesel, green methanol, and LNG.
