🌱 Can agriculture-linked carbon credits become a key driver of natural capital investment returns? At Climate Asset Management, we see the potential—but we’re also approaching it with caution. As Carl Atkin-House highlighted at the Environmental Finance Natural Capital Investment EMEA 2025 event, while agriculture has strong long-term value, monetizing carbon credits from regenerative farming is still in its early stages. Today, carbon credit revenue from agriculture is a very small component of total returns — but we believe it should play a much bigger role in the future. This contrasts with forestry where carbon markets and returns are much more robust and well developed. Our approach? A balanced Natural Capital Strategy that includes sustainable forestry, regenerative agriculture and nature-based environmental assets to unlock opportunities for institutional investors. 🌍 To mark National Almond Day, at Climate Asset Management, we are pleased to acknowledge and celebrate the role of almonds as an anchor crop in our European regenerative agriculture portfolio. 🌎 In the ten years between 2012 and 2021, global almond production increased by more than 70%, with 80% of global production originating in California, where concerns about the sustainability of production are linked to concerns about water resources. 🌳 Europe remains highly dependent on imported almonds, and the opportunity to transition under-utilised and degraded land in Southern Europe to ensure a growing high-quality, regenerative production base is a key thesis of our Natural Capital Fund’s regenerative agriculture strategy. 🌱 Across our portfolio we have a mix of orchard designs across Spain and Portugal where we are trialling the integration of cover cropping and different approaches on managing land for biodiversity to enhance ecosystem condition whilst ensuring the production of high quality, sustainable nuts. 👉 Transitioning away from abrasive American-style sweep harvesting on our recently acquired developed orchards to alternative harvesting methods will be positive for long-term soil health and structure. (The selection of pictures shown below are from our Natural Capital Fund's Iberian orchards in blossom and ready for harvest) #NatureIsCapital #NaturalCapital #RegenerativeAgriculture #SoilHealth #NaturePositiveFarming #WorldAlmondDay

🐸 Yesterday, 2nd February was United Nations World Wetlands Day. https://lnkd.in/dP2ee3kh 🐟 Phoebe Scott, Investment Associate at Climate Asset Management, takes a look at wetlands, their importance for life on earth, and the need for investment in wetland conservation and restoration. 🛶 “As the rowing boat glides quietly through the mangroves, I am amazed by the sheer tranquillity of the surrounding landscape, in contrast to the teeming vitality beneath the surface” 🌎 A recent trip to Mexico allowed me to witness the beauty of wetland environments up close, and the efforts of local communities to safeguard these valuable ecosystems. 🌐 On United Nations World Wetlands Day, it is a time to pause, reflect and acknowledge the importance of wetlands to the world we inhabit and the need to preserve them for future generations. Wetlands play a critical role in supporting biodiversity, regulating water cycles, and providing numerous benefits to human society. 📰 You can read more here [https://lnkd.in/ecdTbVSq] #NatureIsCapital #NaturalCapital #NatureBasedSolutions #ClimateResiliance #BlueCarbon #UNWorldWetlandsDay 📷 (Photos are author’s own - from recent visits to wetland environments in Oaxaca, Mexico and Queensland, Australia.
