Our official side at #COP29 will explore the emerging concept of #JustResilience. 🌍 This framework emphasises that #adaptation policies can have unequal impacts, often creating new vulnerabilities or redistributing existing risks onto marginalised communities. Ignoring these disparities can lead to maladaptive outcomes, further entrenching injustice and inequity. This event promises to foster collaborative discussions on implementing equitable adaptation strategies. Speakers include: 🔹Kishan Kumarsingh, Head of the Multilateral Environmental Agreements Unit at the Ministry of Planning and Development 🔹Mbulaheni Mbodi, Labour Commisioner at the Presidential Climate Commission 🔹Satya S. Tripathi, Chancellor of KISS - Kalinga Institute of Social Sciences 🔹Katherine Browne, Research Fellow and Team Lead at SEI — Stockholm Environment Institute 🔹Jiten Yumnam, Secretary of the Centre for Advocacy and Research - India, Manipur ⬇ Find out more and register on our website: https://lnkd.in/eadh_8Qr Hosts: The Republic of Trinidad and Tobago, Climate Strategies and Stockholm Environment Institute.

Reflecting on a successful ELEVATE & COMMITTED National Modelling & Stakeholder Workshop in India! 💡 Last week, scientists and stakeholders gathered to discuss the latest climate modelling results, explore how models can support science-based policymaking, and enhance understanding of socio-economic aspects of the climate transition within the context of India. Key Takeaways: 📊 For the policy implementation questions arising, models need to be larger in scope and more detailed at the same time. More consistency between global and national models is desirable. 📈 To achieve net-zero by 2070, India's electricity sector will need to decarbonize earlier, increasing its share of renewable sources. 📉 Phase down/out of coal requires active policies on critical minerals, battery storage and carbon dioxide removal (CDR) technologies. 🌳 Residual emissions in the energy sector are expected to be compensated through carbon sequestration in the agricultural and forestry sectors. 🗺 Impacts on land use, the potential for scaling up and consequences for trade are critical challenges for India’s climate policy. ☝ Climate finance is critical but currently insufficient. To move forward, improving modelling is important at the macro-level, while at the micro-level financing schemes to rebalance risks and returns should be implemented. 🤝 In India specifically, the impact of climate policies in terms of inequality, poverty, and distributional impacts should be examined. 🌐 Countries have different responsibilities in mitigation depending on principles like responsibility, capability and equality. Still, there is a common interest in reducing global emissions in order to prevent dangerous climate change. Countries and regions can learn from each other in research on climate policy and experience in implementation. Workshops such as this one can help understand the challenges involved in the transformations needed in different parts of the world. 🌏 The workshop inspired optimism and enthusiasm for future collaboration among participants. A big thank you to all organizers and participants for their valuable insights and contributions! 👏 TERI - The Energy and Resources Institute Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad

Join us at #COP29! 🌍 #JustResilience is a concept that seeks to address the disproportionate impacts of #ClimateChange on marginalised communities, emphasising equity, social justice, and inclusivity in adaptation and mitigation strategies. Our official side event at COP29 will explore the connections between Just Transitions and adaptation through this emerging framework. Our speakers will examine strategies for moving Just Resilience from theory to practice, including: 📈 Developing indicators for climate justice 🏛 Applying Just Resilience at the subnational level ✍ Integrating Just Resilience into National Adaptation Plans 🤝 Linking the Global Goal on Adaptation with the #JustTransition Work Programme Find out more and register on our website: https://lnkd.in/eadh_8Qr Hosted by the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago (Ministry of Planning and Development), Climate Strategies, and SEI — Stockholm Environment Institute.

Exploring Just Resilience in Kenya 🌍 #JustResilience is a framework that seeks to address the disproportionate impacts of #ClimateChange on marginalised communities by emphasising equity and #SocialJustice in adaptation and mitigation strategies. #Kenya has a robust regulatory and institutional approach to climate change. However, the integration of Just Resilience principles varies. While equity and inclusion are generally recognised as important, policies often fail to translate these principles into practice. Our brand-new report: ➡ Examines the current state of Just Resilience in Kenya and highlights barriers to achieving fair and inclusive climate adaptation. ➡ Draws insights from government ministries and agencies, the private sector and civil society to outline gaps, opportunities, and practical steps for embedding equity into adaptation initiatives. ➡ Explores community-driven, locally aligned solutions that focus on supporting vulnerable populations. In this op-ed, Grzegorz Peszko explores the evolving debate on #JustTransitions and proposes realistic, equitable pathways for achieving the #climate goals of the #ParisAgreement. 🌍 The insights in this article were drawn from discussions held during our Policy Dialogue on Just Energy Transitions, which brought together policymakers, researchers, and leaders from around the world to co-design pathways for prosperity post-fossil fuels. Many thanks for your valuable contributions to these conversations, Grzegorz Peszko! The Policy Dialogue was created in partnership with: Salzburg Global Seminar, Stanley Center for Peace and Security, and WINDWARD FUND.
As the global community increasingly commits to moving away from fossil fuels, we must ask: how do we ensure this transition benefits everyone, especially the most vulnerable? In our latest article, Grzegorz Peszko explores ways to pursue a green energy transition that even fossil fuel producers can benefit from https://ow.ly/m0gG50TSFe7

As a signatory to the Paris Agreement, #Ghana is committed to reducing its greenhouse gas emissions and transitioning to a sustainable, low-carbon economy. But how can the country achieve this while balancing economic growth, social equity, and environmental protection? Our brand-new report, "A Critical Review and Analysis of Opportunities and Challenges for Just Transitions in Ghana," explores this complex question. Key Insights: 💰 Limited access to funding is the primary barrier to scaling renewable energy. ⚡ Inconsistent regulations hinder competition in the #energy sector. 🗨 The #JustTransition Work Programme can facilitate discussions that promote access to financing mechanisms and provide a space for knowledge-sharing on policy reforms. 📖 Read the full paper here: https://lnkd.in/eznq9ggx Nerissa Edem Anku

Earlier this week, we convened a dynamic workshop in #Athens titled: 'Anticipating Agricultural #Climate Shocks: Leveraging Science to Increase Policy Ambition, Farmers' Resilience, and #FoodSecurity in Southeastern Europe and the EU.' 🌾 The event brought together a diverse community of practice to discuss the early results of our Augures! project and start a conversation on bridging the gaps between science, policy and the needs of farming stakeholders. Key takeaways from the workshop: 🌽 Climate impacts on #agriculture are heterogeneous and complex: context-specific assessments resulting from #IntegratedAssessment modelling can be powerful tools in the face of climate uncertainty. 📊 To support farm management decisions in the short and long term, access to open, transparent, and trusted climate data must be paired with systemic capacity building, improved education, and access to finance. 🔬 Scientific insights must be effectively communicated to become actionable: information-sharing systems can be improved through regular engagements with #rural communities and agricultural policy practitioners. 🤝 Multistakeholder dialogues are crucial for moving these efforts forward and helping the EU agricultural sector build a more resilient and sustainable future.
