February 2025 marked a significant milestone with global grid-scale battery energy storage system (BESS) deployments reaching 4.5GW/10.5GWh. While China continues to lead, Europe is fast catching up, doubling its share from January to contribute 12% of the global figure. Notably, the UK has made substantial progress with the first 200MW/400MWh phase of the Blackhillock BESS in Scotland, significantly boosting capacity. This impressive figure contributes to the 97% global increase from February 2024, highlighting the rapid growth in BESS technology and the impact of new projects.
