Some of our London team attended The Economist’s 21st GC Summit this week. During what was a very packed day, we hosted a roundtable on strategies to retain top talent in a cost-conscious world, which generated some great discussions and our team also attended some of the key plenary sessions. Below they share a summary of their take-aways.   🌎The global economy and geopolitics: legal professionals must stay informed about the impact of geopolitics on the global economy, planning for 'black swan' scenarios (e.g. pandemics) using tools like horizon scanning is crucial.   🤖Artificial intelligence: most companies are in the experimentation phase with AI, aiming to perfect the 'human-machine partnership'. AI should be considered a core capability, and lawyers need training to harness it's potential.   🌱Sustainability: sustainability is essential for thriving capital markets, with lawyers playing a key role in promoting it within companies. The EU Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD) is a major regulatory challenge, and GCs should engage with regulators to ensure compliance.   💭Mental wellbeing: opening up conversations about mental wellbeing in the legal sector is important, emphasizing that a legal career is a 'marathon, not a sprint'.   #EconGC #generalcounsel #legalservices
