Following the enactment of a wide-ranging AML Bill in August 2024, the Singapore government has published recommendations to further strengthen the jurisdiction's AML framework. After a huge AML investigation in 2022 led to the arrest of 10 suspects in Singapore and continuing investigations against a further 17, a flood of new AML measures have been introduced in the jurisdiction, culminating in the passage of the Anti-Money Laundering and Other Matters Act on 6 August 2024. Among other measures, the Act introduces amendments to enhance data sharing among government agencies, simplify processes for handling seized properties and align casino operator regulations with Financial Action Task Force (FATF) standards. It also removes the need for prosecutors to prove a direct link between the underlying criminal conduct and the monies allegedly laundered in Singapore. https://lnkd.in/dkSyJS2s

An EWHC judgment has confirmed that the act of accompanying a person to a place where they intend to end their own life does not amount to assisting a suicide (Morris v Morris [2024] EWHC 2554 (Ch)), meaning that her widower is to be allowed to inherit the residue of her estate. Concluding that the deceased had made a voluntary, clear, settled and informed decision to die by suicide before the claimant started to take any steps capable of amounting to assistance, the EWHC found that there was no evidence of the claimant’s moral culpability for what had happened and that strong grounds, therefore, existed for relieving him from all effects of the forfeiture rule. https://lnkd.in/dFNbhb25
