“I really enjoy making someone's life easier. If you're spending the majority of your life working, that space needs to be a space that helps you flourish, challenges you, and gives you something positive. That's why I decided to join Clusivity.” We're excited to introduce you all to Hector Bustillos, our new Marketing Lead, with a 🔦spotlight series 🔦 where we celebrate the stories of inspiring changemakers in DEI🌟 Hector’s passion for DEI began unexpectedly when he was hired by his university’s DEI department right after graduation. This opened his eyes to the profound impact that inclusive practices can have on an organisation. “I realised how DEI needs to be a basic framework for all companies. Like oil in a company’s engine, DEI makes it run more effectively.” Hector believes that many companies are hesitant about DEI because they fear the potential criticism. In this way, companies behave and act just like people. “Not meeting expectations has always been scary for me. Like when you're in a performance review or you’re receiving criticism. In comparison, companies starting their DEI journey don't want to be judged or scrutinised for something that they haven't implemented yet. It's bit unfair of us to heavily criticise companies for this, because it takes time. Going back to the personal level, it takes time for us to implement feedback.” The solution? For companies to be courageous enough to take the first step💪 “Every company has an ego. An image that they want to portray for themselves. But honestly, not many people care for that sort of perspective. Companies gain a lot more respect from trying rather than doing nothing.” A job in a DEI start-up isn’t for everyone. It takes someone who is a visionary, a self-starter, with creative talent and willingness to take calculated risks. Hector draws inspiration from his brothers, hardworking father, artistic mother, and fearless partner. “My brothers have always had that entrepreneurial bug. That rubbed off on me. When it comes to being a reliable person, my dad's has always been that. His loyalty to his work is admirable. Then, my mother is a little more wild. Her lack of ego makes her just do things without too much idling. And finally, my fourth inspiration is my partner. No challenge is too big for him. He doesn't create barriers in his mind.” Like many of us, Hector has a “road not taken”. His journey is a testament to his adaptability and passion for design🎨 “I wanted to be an architect for the longest time. I always liked the idea of creating something tangible. So I took that same methodology and ended up going towards branding and marketing. With a marketing campaign, I design it, build it, and I get to see it and experience it.” “Do I regret not pursuing architecture? I once did, but not anymore. I'm someone that enjoys moving forward.” Architecture’s loss is our gain at Clusivity and we are thrilled to be welcoming Hector to our small but fast-growing team!🚀

A recent article in The Guardian article highlights growing mistrust among employees towards HR departments, particularly in handling discrimination and workplace conflicts 🆘. In response, independent HR firms like Caged Bird HR have emerged, to listen to workers' issues about harassment and discrimination🚫 (topics that employees feel they cannot discuss safely with their company’s HR), and provide guidance on how to address these concerns. The service has been particularly beneficial during times of corporate transitions and layoffs, offering employees a lifeline by informing them of options like taking a leave of absence, which they weren’t aware of. What do you think this means for the future of HR?💭🔮 Bathabile Mthombeni, J.D., M.S., PCC Heeral Gudka Michelle Gyimah Adaku Oliver-Nnona Daniel Palmer Hayley Bakker Danielle Antes Liselle Sheard Dimple Mistry, FCIPD Full article: https://lnkd.in/ge3FPnt2
