What happened in hospitality last week? An update from the CODE bulletin newsletter: 1. Rowley Leigh is returning to the pass this autumn. The man behind acclaimed restaurants Kensington Place and Le Café Anglais has devised a new menu at City institution The Don. 2. Mitch Tonks doesn’t cook in London all that often. He’s one of three chefs taking part in a new series at the Donovan Bar at Brown’s Hotel, running the food menu with snacks and small plates. Tom Kitchin is also on the way, but on now is the great chef Andrew Wong. 3. The group behind Peckham favourite Artusi (also has Marcella in Deptford) is heading to Soho. 4. There are still tickets available to the Bloodshot Acid House Club event at Darby’s. Lunch kicks off at 4pm, with the likes of Tom Brown, Brad Carter and Freddie Jansenn joining Robin Gill. DJs — including Simone Marie of Primal Scream fame — are on until midnight. Look out for a CODE members’ deal this week. We have had an update on Simpson’s from Jeremy King, who emailed to acknowledge inevitable setbacks but has now revealed he is ‘very close’ to getting the keys, after which a May 2025 opening is planned. King explained delays have allowed him and his team to refine the design of the restaurant, as well as working on the menu and repairing the famous trolleys. There is good news too in the form of the licence: what will be the theatre bar is likely to be open until 3am, and it will also be home to chess, much as the venue was in days gone by. We can't wait. Sign up to our free newsletter to get the latest industry news & insight: https://lnkd.in/epDcN5U9 #hospitality #restaurant #London #Strand #bar #chess

What happened in hospitality last week? An update from the CODE bulletin newsletter: 1. On November 1, Joshua Bratt (Carousel) and Jake Norman (Trullo) will host a Halloween special at Shoreditch Arts Club, pooling music, natural wine, and, this time, chef Naz Hassan, who will be cooking a menu inspired by his Bengali and Italian heritage. 2. The highly rated Edinburgh restaurant Lyla is celebrating its first birthday with a series of ‘four hands’ dinners. 3. The Vietnamese Kitchen group will bring a branch of Keu to Borough Market next month, taking a space formerly home to Patty&Bun. 4. Those with nostalgic thoughts about Chicago Town deep-dish pizzas will be happy to learn about Neil Rankin’s new project, Little Earthquakes. The chef has created a high-end take on deep pan alongside From the Ashes BBQ founders Martin Anderson and Curtis Bell.
