With great excitement, we unveil our latest project in northeast Scotland. The Cabrach Distillery, located at Inverharroch on the edge of Speyside, rekindles the spirit of whisky production in a community that has awaited its return for 170 years. Working with the Cabrach Trust, it’s been fantastic to be part of this journey to reintroduce an iconic heritage and tradition to the local community. This project is part of a long-term plan to revitalise the Cabrach valley by investing in jobs and community initiatives that bring people back to the area. The Cabrach Distillery will be operated as a Community Interest Company (CIC) with surpluses generated being made available to support the Trust’s community led regeneration plans. The project’s first phase has delivered the construction of a new access road, the meticulous restoration of the original farm steadings, and the creation of an operational distillery and maturation warehouse. The final stages involved the painstaking conversion of the steadings to house a state-of-the-art micro-distillery. A future Phase 2 is in development that shall see that addition of a heritage museum, retail space and café that will offer an immersive experience celebrating the Cabrach’s unique whisky heritage. This project, featured in The Herald Scotland, is all about celebrating local history, sustainable design, and the incredible spirit of Speyside. Yesterday, we submitted our response to The Scottish Government consultation on the Scottish Passivhaus Equivalent. We are heartened to see the breadth of work that the Scottish Government and key stakeholders are investing in the implementation of this standard. We view this legislation as a unique opportunity for Scotland to address the challenges we currently face in our construction sector and in wider society. Through a planned transition to the Scottish Equivalent standard, we believe the industry will be given the certainty and opportunity to confidently implement processes and standards that ensure our future homes are built to the highest quality. The opportunity this standard offers to deliver comfortable, healthy, affordable-to-heat homes that use minimal energy will directly address the cost-of-living crisis and the climate emergency, forming a key plank in Scotland's Just Transition. We eagerly await the next consultation on the technical aspects of the standard and look ahead with hope that Scotland will grasp the nettle, or thistle, and embrace this important legislative change.
