We recently met Sergeant Stuart Ford, who leads the City of London Police Cycling Team. His approach to policing is rooted in respect, empathy, and maintaining the highest standards of professionalism. Beyond his policing duties, Stuart is also involved in the UK Police Unity Tour (UKPUT), which raises awareness for officers who have lost their lives in service and provides support for their families. He strongly emphasises physical and mental wellbeing, recognising that these are crucial to both personal resilience and effective service. By prioritising these aspects, he ensures that officers are not only fit for duty but also better equipped to handle the challenges of the job. Stuart’s dedication reminds us that our commitment to serving the community doesn’t end when the shift does - it’s part of who we are, every day. See further: https://lnkd.in/emsmsNh8 #CodeofEthics

Modern slavery affects over 130,000 people in the UK, and it's a complex crime that demands a coordinated response. As this issue grows, we’re updating our Authorised Professional Practice (APP) to better equip policing to identify, respond to, and prevent these crimes. The updated APP will provide guidance for: 🔹 frontline officers: Including the types of exploitation, spotting the signs that someone is a victim, and what actions to take to keep victims safe and support an effective investigation 🔹 investigators: Including safeguarding vulnerable victims so they are no longer at risk, how to build an evidence-led investigation into this complex type of crime, and how they can access regional and national support during their investigation 🔹 supervisors: Including how they should ensure cases of modern slavery are investigated thoroughly and effectively by officers and staff who possess the right skills and experience 🔹 senior leaders: Including how they should establish processes that support all officers and staff within their force to understand, prioritise and respond to the threat of modern slavery 🗓️ The consultation is open until 12 November. We're spotlighting Dot Com Digital, a resource developed by Essex Police in partnership with the National Police Chiefs' Council. Designed to protect children from online dangers like grooming, exploitation, and bullying, this programme equips schools with a comprehensive tool to teach children how to stay safe online. Dot Com Digital uses engaging, character based learning to help children recognise risks and build the confidence to seek help when they need it. With themes ranging from online safety to knife crime, the programme provides vital early intervention support, ensuring schools can quickly identify vulnerable pupils and refer them to the appropriate authorities. Since it's launch, Dot Com Digital has been a powerful force for safeguarding, with over 400 schools in Essex signed up and 1,000 schools nationally. The initiative, which is also part of Essex Police’s annual roadshows, reached more than 3,000 children in 2023 alone, combining digital lessons with in person events to break down barriers between young people and the police.
