As we recognise Mentoring Day (27th October) let’s take a moment to appreciate the transformative power of #mentoring and the strides we’ve made with our MentorU programme. Mentoring is a powerful tool that boosts confidence, enhances skills, and builds resilience in both personal and professional pursuits. Since its launch just over a year ago, MentorU has connected 60% of our colleagues as mentors and mentees. These connections have fostered valuable relationships that promote growth, support and knowledge-sharing across our organisation. It has also improved cross-functional collaboration across our regions and helped our new joiners integrate more seamlessly into the DCS culture. We are thrilled to hear how much support it has provided to our colleagues. #mentoringday #mentor #mentee #mentorprogramme #mentorU

At Colt DCS, we are committed to engaging in community projects in the areas where our data centres are located. To support this, we offer our employees 2 days of CSR leave per year. Earlier this month, colleagues from our Product and Marketing Team visited the Hillingdon Foodbank, near our London 4 development site in Hayes, to lend a hand. The team spent the day sorting and dating food donations, preparing food parcels, and helping with deliveries. The Foodbank provides short-term and emergency food, as well as financial and benefits advice to families in the borough of Hillingdon who are experiencing difficult times. The whole Team enjoyed helping for the day and are excited to plan their next CSR activity. Hear more from Peter at the Hillingdon Foodbank and Matthew Cantwell, Director of Product and Marketing at Colt DCS, about the initiative. #csr #corporatesocialresponsibility #hillingdonfoodbank #communityengagement #communityinitiative #volunteering #hayesdatacentre #hillingdondatacentre

This Black History Month, we’re celebrating influential Black individuals and their profound impact on society and the world. Did you know that Dr Marian Rogers Croak, an African American woman, invented Voice Over Internet Protocol (VoIP) technology? Dr Marian Rogers Croak is a true pioneer in technology and an inspiration to many. As a groundbreaking Black woman in the tech industry, her work in VoIP has transformed how we communicate. Her innovation has been crucial in developing modern communication tools like Skype and Zoom, enabling effective audio and video communication over the Internet. This advancement has made conferencing and remote working more accessible and efficient, revolutionising local and global communications. In recognition of her achievements, which include over 200 patents, she was inducted into the Women in Technology Hall of Fame in 2013 and became one of the first two Black women inducted into the National Inventors Hall of Fame in 2022. Dr Marian Rogers Croak’s contributions have paved the way for future generations of women and minorities in tech, highlighting that diversity and inclusion are key drivers of innovation 🌐✨ #BlackHistoryMonth #BlackWomen #WomeninTechnology #WomeninSTEM #VOIP #CommunicationTechnology #Innovation

Delivered as part of our Black History Month celebrations, we hosted an energetic, African Drumming Workshop at our Head Office in London. It was an opportunity for us to come together, celebrate, and learn more about the history behind African drumming. We were joined by Aboubacar from The London African Drumming Company. Aboubacar took us on a journey educating us on the origin of African drumming. We had the opportunity to play the drums, which were native to Western Africa, and learn some phrases in Mossi, a language native to Burkina Faso. Those who took part, were able to learn different drumming patterns and rhythms. It was a vibrant lunchtime, which left everyone feeling recharged and ready to tackle the afternoon. Here's a video of our Colt DCS drummers in action. #BlackHistoryMonth #AfricanCulture #AfricanDrumming #AfricanDrums #Drumming #Culture #Education

In the face of rising energy demands from #datacentre customers, maintaining a low Power Usage Efficiency (PUE) rating by data centre providers is crucial for cost savings and environmental sustainability. Effective cooling and heat management become essential as high-performance computing and IT workloads increase. Building DCs in cold climates can leverage free cooling methods, significantly reducing energy consumption. However, not all organisations can benefit from this due to geographical constraints. Advanced cooling techniques, such as liquid cooling, offer promising alternatives. Alistair Barnes Head of Mechanical Engineering at Colt DCS, talks to Data Centre Solutions about 'The significance of Liquid Cooling for Data Centre Sustainability'. Partnering with knowledgeable data centre providers who can review and manage operations in real-time, will ensure efficiency and help meet corporate sustainability goals. We had the pleasure of hosting 80 students from Nara National College of Technology in Japan, at our Osaka Keihanna Data Centre, as part of their Autumn External Training. Our #datacentre team Yo Aoyama Tomoya Ikeda, Shuhei Iwata, Kaori Yano and Talent Acquisition Specialist Isamu Morita, led insightful briefing sessions and an engaging data centre tour. The students were divided into two groups, alternating between sessions at the Keihanna Plaza Hotel and the data centre tour. The students were intrigued to learn that their knowledge of electricity, information technology, and mechanical engineering is extremely valued in data centre operations, which made them very enthusiastic about our data centre tour. The Q&A session was particularly dynamic, with the students keen to understand how their skills could be applied in data centres. Throughout the day, the professionalism and curiosity they displayed were very impressive. It was encouraging to see feedback from our survey, which showed that many of the students were interested in Colt DCS's graduate programme. A special shoutout to Yo Aoyama and Ikeda, both alumni of Nara National College of Technology, who played a vital role in making this event a success and kudos to the Keihanna data centre team for their teamwork in organising this fantastic event! #datacenters #education #futuretalent #teamwork #ColtDCS
