More than 200 community friends came together for an evening ‘Festival of Light’ in the garden of Woodpeckers in the New Forest. The team transformed the garden into a magical space, with illuminated displays, hanging lanterns, and a beautiful Remembrance area filled with poppies. Together, they raised over £300 for Brockenhurst Gateway Club, the residents’ chosen charity. Halloween fun kicked off at Linden House dementia care home in Lymington with an incredible party in their Malt Hall, joined by Pennington Village Pre-schoolers! The hall was decorated with spooky decorations—from giant pumpkins to bats and ghosts. Residents and the young guests enjoyed Halloween games, including a memory challenge with themed items, a hilarious mummy-wrapping game, and a giant parachute game. Dressed as a giant banana, Companion, Phil, read a Halloween story, captivating everyone. Afterward, we shared “witch’s brew” and tasty treats before dancing to favourites like The Hokey Cokey and Baby Shark. Laura, our Companion at St Catherines View, our dementia care home in Winchester, made Olwen’s 99th birthday unforgettable by fulfilling her wish to see Il Divo live. Joined by her daughter, she enjoyed a wonderful evening at the Bournemouth International Centre watching the group perform. The highlight of the night was when Olwen met Il Divo in person, where she had a chat and took a photo with them. Overjoyed, she said, “This is a surprise; I am so happy. Today, our care homes joined thousands across the UK in supporting Breast Cancer Now Wear It Pink Day, one of the biggest fundraising events in the country. Held during Breast Cancer Awareness Month, this special day sees people from all walks of life—communities, schools, and workplaces—coming together to raise vital funds for Breast Cancer Now, the UK’s largest breast cancer charity. Our residents and staff dressed head to toe in pink, enjoyed freshly baked cupcakes, fun raffle prizes, and shared plenty of smiles, all while supporting such an important cause. Residents at Fernhill in Longham enjoyed a 1950s drive-in cinema experience, transforming the home into Rydell High for a special showing of Grease to fulfil resident Carol’s movie wish. From Pink Ladies and T-bird t-shirts to a big screen under the stars, everyone got into the spirit. Staff and residents dressed up, sang along, and made Carol’s wish come true. Senior Nurse Lexie said, “It was an amazing day, so much fun for residents, relatives, and staff. Belmore Lodge recently welcomed a special visitor from the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance. Following a previous talk from Support Engagement Officer, Emma, about the incredible work the charity does, some of our residents – many of whom had supported the charity before – were eager to get involved again. While a real flight or drive wasn’t on the cards, Emma and her team brought something just as exciting! Residents enjoyed a day with a Flight Simulator, remote control ambulance vehicles, and VR headsets, offering a hands-on experience. Both residents and staff had a wonderful time, with plenty of fun and some healthy competition around the remote-control cars! 🚁🚑 Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance is an independent charity, providing critical care to seriously ill and injured patients across the region. The team at Fernhill Dementia Care Home organised a special birthday surprise for Sheila. Sheila's wish came true with a visit from Sammy, the adorable miniature pony from Pony N Paws. Her face lit up as he trotted into the lounge, and she couldn't resist giving his beautiful mane a stroke. Sammy, who is three years old and loves attention, brought joy and smiles to everyone around the home. He even stopped by the hairdressers for a banana snack!
