We support artists with workshops, industry insight & advice to help them achieve sustainable careers after their CPWM release. Events Come Platform Me is a programme set up to support and uplift marginalised promoters and artists through a series of gigs(or live music events depends how casual/fancy we want to sound). Magazine The Come Play With magazine is a bi-monthly print publication that aims to dig a bit deeper and go behind the scenes and under the skin of all things music. Inclusivity, diversity, education and personal stories are the priority and focus.

Insightful talk this morning from Lily Fontaine at Sensoria Festival, speaking about building a creative career in the North. Lily’s at such a huge moment in her career, returning from a tour in the US with her band English Teacher who won the Mercury Prize just a couple weeks ago, so felt lucky to catch her today! She gave a shout out to the great work that Music Local and Come Play With Me are doing for communities in Leeds, and how important it is to engage in your local scene where you can. Even though organisations like these are often just getting by themselves, they’re always putting the future of music first. Thanks to Jo Wingate, and Daniel Dylan Wray for hosting! #musicindustry #yorkshire #sensoria

Really valuable conversation with Christopher Bryant MP, Minister For Creative Industries, Arts & Tourism Department for Culture, Media and Sport. Chris listened and engaged constructively and enthusiastically as we discussed both positives for the region (EMI North setting up shop in Leeds, English Teacher's deserved Mercury Prize Limited win, the new West Yorkshire Music Network being launched by a consortium of Leeds Conservatoire, CreateBritain + Come Play With Me for Tracy Brabin, Mayor of West Yorkshire) and the very real challenges for regional music (our struggling venues/ticket levies - with a shout-out for the amazing work of BRUDENELL SOCIAL CLUB LIMITED & Music Venue Trust, post-Brexit touring challenges, shockingly bad Northern transport etc.) Appreciate Chris taking time to speak to us, Tash & Erin (EMI), Jilly (Clue Records) & Claire (Music:Leeds) ahead of meeting the Bradford 2025 UK City of Culture team and Tracy Brabin. Working in this sector is bloody hard - but having a sense that the Government want to understand the challenges and work with Combined Authorities, local councils and MPs (shout out to our own Alex Sobel) to support is a breathe of fresh air!

Did you catch the news on Music Week & Prolific North yesterday! We were over the moon to see our recent hires highlighted for all to see! While we're celebrating this, the amazing news of English Teacher's thoroughly deserved Mercury Prize Limited award and all the other good stuff happening in live music in Yorkshire, it could suggest that everything is rosey in the garden. But for CPWM, and many of our music development organisation peers, funding is a bit of a struggle right now. As a non-profit, we always depend on the support of our incredible funders (Arts Council England PRS Foundation PPL Youth Music etc.) and our sponsors and partners who want to align our impactful work with marginalised communities in music alongside their brands. If you, or anyone you know would like to discuss supporting one of our events or projects, please contact Alice Scott, Antonia Lines or Tony Ereira as we'd love to speak some more! There is tons to come - but we need your help to make it happen! https://lnkd.in/eDHdmfDt https://lnkd.in/eb7SwAnu

A win for the grassroots. A win for Northern talent. Massive congratulations to English Teacher on the #MercuryPrize. Youth Music funded partners Music Local and Come Play With Me provided a vital space for Lily and the band to explore their artistry before being signed. It's amazing to see the band's continued success after winning the Rising Star Award at the Youth Music Awards 2022. We're delighted that two years in a row, grassroots supported artists have won the Mercury Prize. However, we must continue to invest in this vital infrastructure to ensure that we are developing a diverse pipeline of musical talent. Our recent #SONG24 report has shown a decline in young people in the North of England pursing music due to a lack of support, funding and opportunities: https://lnkd.in/e3qQ5cwd English Teacher are the first act from outside London to win the Mercury Prize since Young Fathers in 2014. We hope that this win marks the beginning of a regional shift beyond the London centric industry.
