We connect charities, volunteers and businesses in Brighton, Hove, Adur and Worthing.
About us
We support voluntary and community action in Brighton, Hove, Adur and Worthing. Voluntary and community action makes our society and local areas better. We want to make sure it does. And, that it has the greatest positive impact on everyone. To achieve this we create the support and networks that help people and organisations to use their time, expertise and energy effectively. We give voluntary and community organisations the support and platform they need to make a difference to local lives and issues. We help people who want to volunteer their time to find local opportunities that make the most of their abilities and ambitions. We connect local businesses with voluntary and community organisations so they can both benefit. We also work with the public sector to ensure they connect with local voluntary and community action. The support and networks we create between organisations and people help to build stronger and fairer local areas for everyone.

Proud to be one of the facilitators at this fantastic event, hosted by Community Works last week.

Last week, Community Works held our Children and Young People Spring Network 2024. It was themed ‘Power Dynamics for Young People’. Promoting and encouraging youth democracy and understanding power dynamics as crucial for young people to navigate and participate effectively in youth democracy. Our guest speaker was Luke Billingham , a youth and community worker for Hackney Quest, and author of Against Youth Violence, which seeks to reframe the issue of violence between young people in Britain. Luke shared his insights into promoting youth voices using three different projects and it was really timely to hear stories of success, lessons learnt and what makes or breaks a project as we continue to bring together opportunities from the council, funders and organisation across the CYP sector to explore next steps. Our workshops explored topics on power dynamic- identifying key stakeholders/decision-makers/influencers in our communities/organisations, promoting youth participation in decision-making processes within their organisations or communities, creating inclusive and equitable spaces within youth organisations and inspiring young people to get involved in their communities and make a positive impact. These networks are planned in partnership with some of our members (ESTEEM Charity , Electric Storm Youth, The Sid Youth) and supported by Sophie Whitehouse and Ruth Pineda from Adur & Worthing Councils, Adam Muirhead Jess Sumner Jess Estcourt Sue Brown Nicci Parish Cat Vizor Nicky Bagilhole

Response to Brighton & Hove City Council 2024/25 Budget proposals. Community Works members gave us their stories, concerns and possible impacts and the talented team have created this document. There's lots to say cause there's lots to decide and our communities are sharing hard times in multiple ways. Thanks to all who contributed and to partners we need to work with to find ways through https://lnkd.in/eauJZsEd

I so enjoyed this morning’s Celebration of the 2023 Community Works mentoring programme. It felt like everyone had gained enormously, mentees and mentors alike. While acknowledging the unprecedented challenges facing VCSE leaders at the moment, the main words we heard were ‘fun’, ‘confident’, ‘supportive’ and the message ‘leaders in the VCSE are absolute diamonds!’ Anna Hayward

Have you ever thought about becoming a charity trustee? We have lots of members in the Chamber who are involved in supporting local charities, including being a trustee. But it can often seem like a mysterious role – what does a trustee actually do? How do you become one, and what experience do you need? On 28 November, Amy Lishman is hosting a virtual Q&A with Mel Willson, Volunteer Coordinator at Community Works. They’ll delve into what it means to be a charity trustee, how to find the right opportunities, plus what the responsibilities it includes. So if you’ve ever thought about becoming a charity trustee and want to find out where to start, come along to our Q&A - there'll be the chance to ask questions in advance and during the event.
