We were delighted to support this new Rail Delivery Group report which shows the huge social, economic and environmental value rail provides across Britain. This includes the value of rail to local communities, showcased via a #CommunityRail case study. You can find out more below 👇
New research from WPI Economics, commissioned by Rail Delivery Group, shows Britain’s rail industry delivered a remarkable £26 billion in economic, environmental, and social benefits last year! And it’s not just about getting from A to B—rail customers spent an incredible £98 billion in local communities, boosting businesses across the UK. With over three million journeys each day, our rail network is a key driver of productivity in towns and cities, while supporting over 100,000 jobs in roles from station staff to underwater divers. 🫶 sharing best practice 🔗 forming connections with fellow volunteers 💡 developing new projects 🚉 transforming stations into community hubs This is what #CommunityRail is all about! The Friends of Bentham Station have recently celebrated the 8th anniversary of their twinning with the Mytholmroyd Station Partnership. Since the twin partnership began, the two groups have met up regularly, allowing the volunteers to connect and support each another, as well as providing an opportunity to share best practice and develop projects and initiatives to raise the profile of community rail in their respective locations. The twinning of two station adoption groups at that time was a first across the country. The band of volunteers are passionate about not just promoting train services but showcasing their stations as gateways to further opportunities for local communities. Gerald Townson, chair of the Leeds-Morecambe CRP, said: “This is now an established idea capable of being picked up by other groups throughout the country. By twinning stations which have thriving support groups, it helps the development of new station initiatives and reinvigorating tourism across the area. “Mytholmroyd Station Partnership and the Friends of Bentham Station are very active in their own right, giving their respective stations a community focus, and we feel that by sharing aspirations, successes and mutual support, both groups will be able to achieve even more.” Northern The Bentham Line
