🔧 Mezzanine Monday: Mechanical & Electrical Considerations in Industrial Warehouses 🔧 When installing mezzanine floors in an industrial warehouse, mechanical and electrical systems are critical to get right. Here’s what to consider: 1️⃣ Warehouse Lighting Effective lighting is essential for safety and productivity. LED lights, high-intensity discharge (HID) lamps, and fluorescent lights all offer energy efficiency and low maintenance. LEDs, in particular, are known for their brightness and cost-effectiveness. Motion sensors and automated systems can ensure lighting is only used when needed, cutting energy costs while improving visibility and accuracy in tasks like picking and packing. 2️⃣ Power A reliable power system is the backbone of all operations. From lighting to heavy machinery, consistent power distribution ensures uninterrupted workflows. Backup systems such as uninterruptible power supplies (UPS) and generators safeguard against outages. Power management tools help monitor and optimise energy use, keeping everything running smoothly. 3️⃣ 3-Phase Power Warehouses often rely on 3-phase power for equipment like conveyors, lifts, and HVAC systems. It delivers a more stable and efficient energy flow than single-phase, reducing strain on electrical systems and enhancing operational performance. Proper installation of transformers and distribution boards is key to maximising efficiency. 4️⃣ Data & WiFi A strong data infrastructure is essential for modern warehouse operations. High-speed cabling, fibre optics, and well-placed WiFi access points ensure seamless tracking, order management, and workflow optimisation. Devices such as barcode scanners, RFID readers, and IoT sensors all depend on fast, reliable connectivity. 5️⃣ Forklift Charging Electric forklifts require efficient charging solutions to maintain productivity. Options range from traditional lead-acid to modern lithium-ion battery chargers, with wireless systems also emerging. Well-designed charging stations with proper ventilation and safety measures are essential for a safe and efficient workflow. We at CID Workspace had the pleasure of working with SteriTech in Salfords a while back on a full refurbishment and it's always a great feeling when clients come back to us. This time they were running out of room, so they called us back in to build a Mezzanine and create more storage space.
