By recognising the importance of repurposing EV batteries and proving the successful integration of these batteries as energy storage, we are reducing the global need to mine critical minerals. It’s a positive byproduct of utilising what we already have, repurposing before EV batteries are then recycled to re-enter the supply chain once again. 🔋 The UK’s ever-growing inventory of spent EV batteries is a huge opportunity and a risk for EV manufacturers with volumes expected to rise rapidly to about 150,000 tonnes by 2035 according to The Faraday Institution. A thought-provoking article in today's The Times highlights the challenges facing the widespread adoption of electric trucks. While technology is advancing - spearheaded by brands such as Volvo Group, Scania Group, Daimler Truck AG and Iveco Group - the market still faces barriers such as high costs and limited charging infrastructure.   Our CEO, Matthew Lumsden, responds:   “Electric trucks hold huge potential for sustainability and efficiency in logistics, so it is disappointing that progress has been slower than anticipated. “To address the challenges around electric truck uptake and enhance their business case, a compelling solution lies in finding a second-life use for their batteries in energy storage systems. Although these batteries may no longer meet the high demands of truck propulsion, they can still provide substantial capacity for stationary applications.   “By repurposing eHGV batteries, we can extract greater residual value and reduce the total cost of ownership. This also extends their utility beyond transport – helping to provide an innovative solution to overcoming the energy demands of high powered charging, stabilising electricity grids and integrating renewable energy - thereby improving the overall economics for manufacturers and fleet operators and fostering a more sustainable energy ecosystem. “This residual value proposition will help reduce the cost differential between electric and diesel trucks, helping to improve the financial viability of fleet electrification.” #electricvehicles #electrictrucks #batteryenergystorage https://lnkd.in/e-8dQGbK

The future isn’t linear, it’s circular. 🔄 In a circular economy model, materials find a new role.
