  • In a sector where leadership diversity has taken a step back, the National Housing Federation’s ‘Chairs’ Challenge’ emerges as a beacon of hope—or does it? Following the insights on Connex Leadership Networks’ roundtable discussion of The Chairs’ Challenge, this mind map explores the NHF’s initiative to enhance EDI in leadership boards. It outlines the key challenges and actionable steps. It addresses concerns about whether signing up reflects genuine commitment or is merely for appearances. While studies show that diverse leadership delivers financial and operational benefits, the housing organisations have seen a decline in leadership diversity. Recruitment often favours "safe" candidates, limiting innovation and progress. The Challenge toolkit provides resources to foster inclusivity, but real change requires ongoing commitment and authentic engagement, not just ticking boxes. As discussed, boards must embed EDI into daily operations, normalise difficult conversations, and use data to drive inclusive decision-making. Success depends on transforming governance practices to ensure EDI is not just symbolic but deeply integrated into leadership strategies. Let us know your thoughts below. 👇🏿 #Leadership #DiversityandInclusion #HousingSector #BoardGovernance #ChairsChallenge #ConnexLeadership
