Over the years, many films and TV shows have been filmed near our HQ - the former RAF Upper Heyford air base in Oxfordshire. Because of the cultural significance of the site, filming requires specialist consent and temporary works to ensure the set can be reversed when filming is complete. Last week a pre-production crew were in evidence, assembling equipment ready to start filming. Any ideas what they might be shooting here? #upperheyford #historicsite #filmset #oxfordshire #rafbase #usairforce Steven Nutt Martin Stammberger Jamie Briggs

On Monday Jack Briggs + Chloe Newton were able to attend an inspiring The Royal Warrant Holders Association evening as they visited the branding seminar hosted by Tate & Lyle at Museum of Brands! 🌟 The time tunnel exhibition showcased fascinating products and packaging from the 1900s to today, reminding us of the evolution of branding, packaging & product. Founder of The Museum of Brands, Robert Opie, opened with key insights of his archive & his passion for branding. Gerald Mason, represented Tate & Lyle who kindly sponsored the event, Gerald discussed the importance of keeping the brand alive & developing to appeal to certain demographics. Nigel McDonald, the chairman of Lock & Co, the oldest hat shop in the world - shared the importance of quality & service alongside a great product. Whilst Christine McCafferty showcased the branding evolution of Johnnie Walker & how they even changed the direction of some key brand iconography to support their successful marketing campaign ‘Keep Walking’ celebrating diversity. Thanks for having us!

Yesterday, we had a flying visit from Upper Heyford history group. They were interested in one of the areas at the back of our buildings and our Hangars as well. They also kindly donated two items to add into our Display Showcase. We are so lucky to work somewhere, which has so much history and heritage. #heritage #history #conservation #preservation #upperheyford #airforcebase #usairforce Steven Nutt Martin Stammberger Jamie Briggs Jack Briggs

Great to see the level of detail and protection being applied, including our great acid free products!!
As folding textiles can weaken fibres and eventually cause damage the best way to store them is by rolling them. This has been done 362 times so far by our Collections Assistants, who have to work incredibly carefully to make sure there are no creases. Acid free materials are also used to provide further protection. If the surface of the textile is painted, then it must be rolled paint-side out to prevent damage caused by compression. Each rolled textile has a customised rod to hang on. This allows the team to maximise the storage space available at the Centre for Material Culture. As each rod is labelled with the unique identification number of the textile it holds it will be very easy for them to be returned to the correct location after researchers have viewed them. The entire process takes skill, planning, and precision . Congratulations to the Stores Move team on a job well done! #StoresMove #CollectionsCare #BehindTheScenes Video description: Hyper-lapse of a long textile being rolled with a layer of tissue paper. Metal rods are also labelled using tape and then the rolled textiles are placed on the rods and hung in brackets in a grid wall aisle. Planning footage shows all the rolled textiles in place on one side of the grid wall. Captions on screen read: “How do we store large textiles? They’re rolled between sheets of acid free paper. The Workshop team then cuts rods to the length of each roll. The rods are labelled with the textiles’ indemnification numbers. The location of each textile has been carefully planned. So, once the brackets are secure the textiles are hung in place. The end card reads "MAA Museum of Archaeology and Anthropology" and features the museum’s logo.
