In government, we took the difficult decisions to reduce inflation from 11.1% to the Bank of England’s target of 2.0% – paving the way for the first interest rate cut in four years. Today’s announcement of a rise in inflation shows how important it is that the new Labour government follows our plan and focuses on keeping inflation low - there is clearly more to be done to keep inflation down.

Disappointing that the Labour government’s first King’s Speech offers nothing for rural communities. In contrast, we: 🐏 Maintained the annual farming budget in England at an average of £2.4 billion. 🚜 Launched the biggest ever grants package for farm businesses. 👨🌾 Committed to increase the UK-wide agriculture budget by £1 billion over this parliament.

The world is more dangerous now than it has been at any time since the end of the Cold War. We urge the Government to commit to increasing defence spending to 2.5% of GDP by 2030.

The Government are inheriting an economy that is on an upwards trajectory. Labour trying to claim things are worse than expected won't wash with the public.

Today’s King Speech made it even clearer that Labour have nothing to offer British farmers.
