Constructing Excellence
Construction
National movement founded on excellence and collaboration - positively disrupting the construction industry
About us
Constructing Excellence is the single organisation driving change in construction. Improving industry performance to produce a better built environment. Our Movement operates at a national, regional and local level within the UK – and increasingly internationally too. We have a network of 9 regional centres covering England, Wales and Northern Ireland. These are separate organisations which carry the brand with a mission to deliver into that region or nation, often working closely with a university. We also have over 30 local best practice clubs, each with their own independent volunteer committee, which reach out locally to SMEs by providing monthly breakfast or evening meetings, typically with a speaker on a Constructing Excellence theme and with the natural bi-product of networking. Our history dates back over 2 decades to the Latham and Egan reports, which remain key to our agenda. The London Olympics and the Construction Commitments that were produced to aid their successful delivery were an important milestone in the journey so far. Our own Never Waste a Good Crisis report in 2010 sought to help the industry prepare for the recession.

This week we’re in Manchester for a demonstration of Element 1, a cross-industry consortium led by BAM developing hydrogen as a replacement for diesel on construction sites. With funding from the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero, Element 1 has brought together expertise from construction (BAM UK & Ireland & Skanska), plant hire (Flannery Plant Hire & Plantforce), hydrogen sector (ULEMCo Ltd, GeoPura, Reynolds Logistics) and the research and technical organisation BRE & Constructing Excellence. The project will drive forward hydrogen manufacturing and supply chain efficiency. It includes off-site production, off-grid compression, innovative storage, and distribution solutions. Element 1 will significantly reduce diesel usage and enable existing plant to remain in use over their remaining lifecycle. It’s incredibly exciting to see this collaborative innovation finally come to fruition. We believe this is another positive step in reducing our industry’s reliance on fossil fuels. #hydrogen #climatechange #Innovation #climatesolutions #cleanenergy #netzero #netzeroinnovationportfolio #NZIP #MakingPossible #BuildingASustainableTomorrow

The 'Gold Standard' for construction frameworks helps to deliver better, safer, faster, greener projects and ensures that public sector money goes further. Its is based on audited 'Trial Projects' where collaborative framework alliances averaged 18.5% agreed efficiency savings plus improved social and environmental value and joint risk management. Gold Standard verification has been awarded by Constructing Excellence to Crown Commercial Service, Places for People and SCAPE, and several other applications are in progress. In this month alone the Gold Standard was central to the launch by London Construction Programme of their housing framework (including its focus on SMEs and mental health) and to discussions last week with David Frise and BESA Group members, with Prof. (Dr) Anusha Shah and the Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE) and with Nicholas Gould, Terry Stocks, Claire King, Mark Buckle, Alison Nicholl and a group of clients and contractors. The 24 Gold Standard recommendations offer proven ways for the construction industry and its public sector clients to overcome the 'Groundhog Day' of lost learning caused by fragmentation and mistrust. https://lnkd.in/eCH6f5-A
