🔬 Why do some areas of England have lower Covid booster uptake than others? A 2022 study explored this and while age, gender, ethnicity, and deprivation had already been identified as factors affecting uptake, the study aimed to uncover additional potential predictors. The research used data from the UK Government Coronavirus Dashboard and other public sources, including the Index of Multiple Deprivation (IMD), demographic, employment, and health data, as well as the Access to Healthy Assets and Hazards index from CDRC. #covid19 #covidresearch #immunisation #booster

About us
Who are we? The CDRC was established in 2014 with funding from the UK Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC) and brings together world-class researchers from the University of Leeds, University College London, the University of Liverpool and the University of Oxford. What do we do? 🌍 We use consumer data to provide unique insight into a diverse range of societal and economic challenges. 📈 We work with data owners (industry and public sector) to make consumer data available to trusted researchers. 👨💻 We offer a range of beginner and intermediate data analytics programmes for academic and non-academic researchers. How can we work together? We collaborate with industry and public sector organisations, using consumer data to undertake impactful research - from short proof-of-concept projects spanning a few months to long-term programmes over several years.

Later this month CDRC's Michelle Morris will join a team of 12 female leaders from the food industry travelling to Farm Africa’s Regenerative Agriculture Project in Kenya to take part in the GROW for Good Challenge. Whilst in Kenya the team will be: 🚲 Cycling 75km across the Embu County ⛺ Camping at three female-run farms in three days 🌽 Assisting with regenerative agriculture farming ♀️ Learning about the lives and challenges of resilient women in different communities 🤝 Collaborating with female industry leaders in Nairobi to drive positive change for women Anyone who has worked with Michelle will know she loves a challenge, so over the last few weeks she has also been cycling or running the equivalent of the length of Kenya - 703 miles (1131 km) to raise funds for Farm Africa. The majority of these miles will have been cycled or run off-road here in Yorkshire (re-creating the unsealed surfaces in Kenya) and she'll finish her mammoth challenge cycling in Embu County with the rest of #TeamGROW later this month. We're looking forward to hearing all about Michelle's experiences in Kenya when she returns. Find out more about Farm Africa and the #TeamGrow challenge here: https://lnkd.in/dAya7cRq

🔍Forenames can reveal demographic attributes like age and gender, helping businesses tailor marketing strategies. A 2016 study by Guy Lansley & Paul Longley analysed data from over 17 million Britons, estimating the age and gender distribution for 32,000 names. The findings uncovered distinctive age profiles associated with different names, primarily due to the fluctuating popularity of baby names over the past nine decades. #consumer #behaviour #namesclassification #targetedmarketing

Dr Fran Pontin and colleagues have received funding from the Research England Policy Support Fund to utilise open data to enhance park safety for women and girls in Bradford. The project will use open-source spatial data to identify safe and unsafe areas in parks for women and girls. The team will produce an open web app for local councils and community groups to help them to identify the areas that offer feelings of safety and identify ‘quick-win’ improvements and future investment. Whilst this initial project will focus on Bradford parks the team will also publish a reproducible methodology for the UK.
Today, we're excited to share the start of 12 new policy projects at Leeds, funded by Research England. Hoping to tackle key policy challenges across areas including climate action and public health to justice and democratic engagement, these projects will produce insights to inform meaningful change at national and local levels. 🌳Urban green spaces provide essential benefits, from supporting biodiversity to improving human health. A 2022 study investigated green attributes in Great Britain's urban centres, highlighting the disparities that exist and their potential implications for society and the economy. The study used CDRC data to define urban areas, and assessed greenness via the Normalised Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI) and identified public green spaces with Ordnance Survey data. #urban #greenspaces #centres

New research from the University of Liverpool has developed a data-driven method to improve transport planning. By assessing both infrastructure supply (bus stops, cycle paths) and demand from residents, this approach helps to identify where transport systems fall short. The findings offer valuable insights for policymakers to prioritise investment in areas that need it most, promoting sustainable and equitable transport options for all. #SustainableCities #TransportEquity #UrbanPlanning #DataDriven

Dr Fran Pontin wrote this blog piece almost two years ago, but understanding these food insecurity stressors is equally important today. We launched the Priority Places for Food Index in November 2022, in collaboration with Which?, to help policy makers identify the places in the UK where people are most likely to need support in accessing affordable food. Earlier this year we updated it to ensure we were still providing the most up-to-date picture of food insecurity risk at neighbourhood level. 🔍 Explore the index here: https://lnkd.in/eASpdf8T
“A wide range of ‘stressors’ drive food insecurity in the UK, including low income, poor access to cheap and or healthy food, rising food prices, and conflicting demands on budgets such as fuel and housing prices, resulting in ‘eat or heat’ decisions.” In a blog from our archive, Dr Francesca Pontin of the Consumer Data Research Centre (CDRC) at the University of Leeds, explores food insecurity in the UK including identifying some of the ‘stressors’ which cause and/or exacerbate the problem. She also shows how social science, through the Priority Places for Food (PFF) Index, a powerful data-driven tool, helps to pinpoint exactly where the need is greatest and therefore where support and resources should be targeted.
