For over 100 years, Cooke has been at the centre of filmmaking, listening to the community of which we are a part.

About us

We lead by introducing new products such as /i Technology, and we remember our success is built on a simple idea - do what the filmmaker needs. Cinematographers choose our lenses for the ‘Cooke Look’ - a sharp, subtle, smooth rendering that provides dimensionality, high contrast, and pleases the eye. Early on in our business Cooke recognised the need to design, manufacture and calibrate lenses that produce warm and natural visuals. We’ve never wavered from that commitment, with each of our lenses being designed with an unrivalled understanding of the pipeline between what the DOP sees and the experience in the movie theatre. Cooke lenses are handcrafted at our factory in Leicester, UK. With generations from the same family working alongside one another, we’re founded over a century of tradition, expertise and state-of-the-art technology. Classic methods, precise insights and craftsmanship come together to produce the Cooke Look™.

Cooke S8/i FF – lenses for the digital age. Cooke has been creating icons of cinema lenses since 1893 - from the Speed Panchros to the first professional motion picture zoom and the incredibly popular S4 series. This legacy continues with S8/i - cutting edge, state-of-the-art, high speed full frame lenses, motivated by feedback from cinematographers wanting to create more realistic, film-like images on digital sensors. An evolution of 'The Cooke Look', S8/i produces breathtakingly beautiful images with an organic feel. This is accomplished by optimizing contrast performance to align with the real resolution capabilities of both current and future digital cameras. With a maximum aperture of T1.4, S8/i are amongst the fastest lenses produced for large format capture. Creative possibilities around depth of field and low light shooting become plentiful and accessible. A balanced approach to sharpness and smooth focus fall off leads to clear subjects and smooth backgrounds with this separation creating a greater sense of depth in a 2D image. Cooke lenses have captured countless iconic images over the past decades. With S8/i, this aesthetic is now tuned for modern digital capture along with delivering full frame coverage and a greater maximum aperture. S8/i FF lenses are precise but never prescriptive, offering salvation in quality. They render beautiful images whilst being incredibly responsive to a cinematographer’s personal style.
