We welcome the measures in the Budget 2024 to help tackle youth unemployment. It is important that initiatives are based on strong evidence and use evaluation to promote continuous learning and assess impact. To help, we have launched this new section of our website which pulls together the findings from our work. It includes research, needs assessments and evaluations on #whatworks #neet #youthunemployment #youthemployment #skills #barriers #keygroups #furthereducation

I finally got around to listening to this episode from The Health Foundation with Naomi Eisenstadt and Donna Malloy. I’d recommend it. Some things I took away from the discussion: 1. Be really clear about what outcomes you’re trying to achieve and design the programme accordingly. 2. Tackling root causes should be the priority. For instance, reducing child poverty is likely to be more effective than helping families be more resilient to the negative affects of deprivation. 3. Fund intentionally and intensively. Don’t spread recourses too thinly. Stay the course. 4. Invest in actions that are proven to work. What Works Centres like Foundations – What Works Centre for Children & Families and Youth Endowment Fund can help here. In parallel, invest in initiatives that secure buy-in and trust from families. 5. Structures may matter less than culture, buy-in and mobilisation. Focus on the levers that matter most. 6. Evaluation can be really powerful, not just in assessing impact but helping in programme design and continuous improvement. Still left wondering whether the guests would implement Sure Start again in 2024. But perhaps that’s for another podcast! https://lnkd.in/d-ttw4vv

🌟 Restart Programme Feasibility Study Protocol now published 🌟 We are pleased to share that the protocol for the feasibility study of the Restart programme has been published. Cordis Bright is proud to be partnering with Foundations – What Works Centre for Children & Families and The Drive Partnership on this study, which marks an important step in evaluating domestic abuse interventions in the UK. 👉 https://lnkd.in/en9v79fb 🔍 What is Restart? Restart aims to improve responses to domestic abuse in low-risk, low-harm families known to Children’s Social Care. Restart has been developed by the Drive Partnership (SafeLives, Respect, and Social Finance) and is delivered by Cranstoun and Respect. It takes a whole-family, multi-agency approach to supporting low-to-medium risk domestic abuse perpetrators while safeguarding (ex-) partner and child victim-survivors. It does this through four strands: (1) Implementing the Safe & Together model at a system level, (2) a one-to-one domestic abuse perpetrator intervention, (3) parallel support for the victim-survivor, and (4) an optional diversionary housing pathway for the perpetrator, to enable the adult and child victim-survivor to remain safe and together at home. 🔍 What approach is the feasibility study taking? The feasibility study is taking an exploratory, "test and learn" approach, with a focus on building capacity for future impact evaluation. It will focus on understanding the programme’s theory and delivery pathways in more detail, and determining the feasibility of future impact evaluations using experimental or quasi-experimental designs. 🔍 Why is this study important? Domestic abuse affects 1 in 5 children in the UK, with long-term impacts on their emotional and physical wellbeing. However, there is limited evidence on what works to prevent domestic abuse and protect families. Building Restart’s capacity for future impact evaluation is an important step towards building this evidence base. 🔍 What does the protocol include? The study protocol provides more detail on the Restart programme and study design, including key research questions, design, and methods that will be used to evaluate the Restart Programme. #DomesticAbusePrevention #RestartProgramme #Evaluation #CordisBright #Foundations #DrivePartnership #SafeLives #Respect #SocialFinance #ChildrenInNeed

We're really pleased to be working with the Youth Endowment Fund and Media Academy Cymru on an efficacy RCT of the Cerridwen programme. This is an important study which will contribute to the limited evidence base around what works to reduce children and young people's engagement in youth violence and offending behaviours. We've just published the trial protocol for the study and registered it on the ISRCTN registry. You can check it out here: https://lnkd.in/eskSQfGx

We recently had the pleasure of attending the Local Government Association to celebrate the end of the Shaping Places for Healthier Lives (SPHL) programme. It was inspiring to hear the five participating local authorities share their achievements over the past three years and to join colleagues from the The Health Foundation, Local Government Association and Design Council. We’ve been working in partnership with PPL on supporting learning and research from the programme. Stay tuned for our final summative report in the coming months which will present our key findings. More information about the programme is available at https://lnkd.in/eSaqeW2u #LocalGovernment #Research #PublicHealth
