‘A Space to Speak Your Mind’ is a radio show and podcast about mental health and wellbeing; and is produced as part of a support group run by Cornwall Mind. Victoria and Vic from the Cornwall Mind radio wellbeing group host this month’s programme. Victoria speaks to Neil Thomas about Art & Mental Health. We hear from Lyn at Growing Links about local, sustainable food systems that support mental health. Richard chats to Lucy from Cornwall Mind about all the upcoming events in September. Plus, Vic and Victoria have a conversation about how September can be a fresh start returning to work and school rather than a point of anxiety. ⚠ Trigger Warning - This post talks about suicide. • Last year there were 200,000 suicide attempts. • For men, last year the suicide rate was the highest for those under 50. For women-the rate saw an increase in under the age of 24. • Over the course of someone’s lifetime: 1 in 5 people have suicidal thoughts 1 in 15 people attempt suicide • Some industries have notably higher suicide rates that are continuing to grow. In the construction industry, 507 people died by suicide in 2021 – compared to 483 in 2020. 503 of those deaths were men. This has to change. Reaching out to a family member, friend, colleague, or even a stranger can change the course of another's life. By showing that you care, you can help give someone hope. All of us can play a role, no matter how small. We may never know what action makes a difference, but we all have the ability to reach in and ask somebody how they are doing. Because talking can save lives. On the outside we may look happy to people. We may appear confident. People might tell us that we look well. But inside we may be struggling with our mental health. We might feel depressed, anxious or stressed. Don't make assumptions. Ask. Talk. Listen. Check in. Because mental health doesn't look a certain way. Please share this post and help us tackle the stigma. #mentalhealthawareness #mentalhealth

A lot of people think they're raising money for us by choosing to fundraise for Mind. That's great and it's really important because Mind do brilliant work and support us as a 'Local Mind.' But although we’re affiliated to Mind, Cornwall Mind is an independently registered and funded charity, dependent on fundraising and donations to continue our vital work in Cornwall. If you choose to support Cornwall Mind, every penny we receive stays in Cornwall and gets spent directly on helping to fund our wellbeing services for people experiencing mental health problems in our local communities. But who ever you support, you're showing you care about mental health and that means the world to us all.💙 Download our fundraising pack - https://shorturl.at/TWEZ4 #DoItForCornwall #mentalhealth #mentalhealthawareness
