    As an HR consultant in Northern Ireland, I've been closely following the impact of AI on workplace skills. A recent Forbes article highlights an important concern…… the potential erosion of employees' critical thinking skills due to overreliance on AI. Here are some key strategies I recommend to ensure AI enhances rather than diminishes creativity and critical thinking…… - Implement AI literacy training - Educate employees on AI's capabilities and limitations. This will help them use AI as a tool rather than a crutch. - Develop AI usage guidelines - Create clear policies on when and how to use AI tools, ensuring they don't become a substitute for independent thought. - Incorporate critical thinking exercises - Regular creative sessions and problem-solving workshops can help maintain and sharpen these skills. - Reward creative solutions - Recognise and incentivise employees who demonstrate exceptional critical thinking and creativity, especially when it goes beyond AI-assisted work. - Core Skills Development – Focus on reskilling employees in areas like analytical and creative thinking, resilience, flexibility, motivation, self-awareness, and lifelong learning.     What does the Employment Rights Bill mean for employers and employees? The recently released 158-page document details the proposed changes to employment rights across the UK and, if passed, will see sweeping changes made to employment legislation. But what does it actually mean for employers and employees? The bill can be broken down into the following headlines; ♦ Parental leave, sick pay and unfair dismissal. Day one rights for paternity, parental, and bereavement leave. Statutory sick leave waiting periods are gone, and the right not to be unfairly dismissed applies only to employees (as was always the case). ♦ Hire, fire and rehire. Companies will now be held to a much higher standard and must provide a sound business reason in order to attempt this. ♦ Flexible working. The Employment Rights Act 1996 will be amended so that flexible working must be afforded to the employee unless the grounds for refusal are reasonable. ♦ The banning of 0-hour contracts and introduction of anti-avoidance measures. ♦ Harassment protections. Harassment disclosures are to be excluded from NDAs. If passed, these measures would not start to take effect until 2026 at the earliest. However, there are measures you can take now so your business is in the best position when the time comes. One of the best measures you can take is to overhaul and strengthen your recruitment processes. Hiring the right people reduces spend, strain and sick days while increases productivity, quality and morale.
