Rochdale based Breaking Barriers have created a monologue for young people on the topic of violence against women and girls. The story focuses on Summer, who is the only girl in her school football team. There is so much at stake with the team about to head into a crucial cup match and the coach has made her Captain. But her phone just won’t stop pinging as she sits alone in her bedroom. Nasty texts and hurtful comments from those she thought were her friends. In this powerful monologue, Summer tells us a story as the clock ticks down to full time and her social media erupts. What has happened to lead her to this point? What decisions will summer make, and what actions should she take to play on the team of her dreams?   The monologue is followed by a facilitated discussion.   With thanks to Tameside Police, and all the schools and organisations who have guided the creation of this piece through workshops, focus groups and discussions on the topic of VAWG.   Blind Side is available to book for schools and groups, contact breakingbarrierstours@gmail.com if you would like further details.

Congratulations to Falinge Park High School in Rochdale who have been shortlisted in the 'Outstanding Arts in Secondary School' category at the Educate Awards! 👏 Staff from the school have been active in our local cultural education partnership from the beginning, championing access to cultural education for children across our borough and sharing their learning to inspire others. It's fantastic to see their work acknowledged at a regional level. https://lnkd.in/emAfNtgC

'Thank you for hosting this CPD, it was great to meet enthusiastic people who genuinely want to raise the profile of our wonderful town.' KS2 Teacher at Shawclough Community Primary School Just one of the many positive responses to our latest CPD event that focused on learning about local heritage in Rochdale. Engagement leads from Touchstones, Rochdale Town Hall and The Co-operative Heritage Trust, came together to share their learning programmes and resources before consulting with teachers about how they might work collaboratively to develop a joined up offer. Ideas included taking schools groups on a heritage trail and visiting all three sites in a day. We also had a taster of the brilliant new immersive tour at Rochdale Town Hall, developed for children. It uses theatre and puppetry to tell a story set in Rochdale, inspired by the mythical creatures in the architecture and the peregine falcons who nest in the tower. #rochdalecreates #createrochdale #raisingrochdale Funded by the Cultural Development Fund (a Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS) fund administered by Arts Council England) and supported by Rochdale Borough Council and Rochdale Development Agency.
