Made my day! Having asked what I was doing this morning, my daughter was very eager to help me prepare for my second research visit at HM Prison Pentonville, with Professor Chris Pascal. She put a set of my books in each of the families' packs, wrote their names on each one, checking them off meticulously as she went and asking me many questions along the way. "Good luck, Anne (mum), I hope the children love your story". Oh how deep that one went! ❤️ Today, the young children were incredibly confident and generous. While their parents were visibly stressed and frustrated, the children were very happy to have a chat with us. Having explained to them that I wrote the book because my 'dad' was sent to prison when I was a child and that I wanted to help children feel less sad about it, each child couldn't wait to tell me that their dad is in prison. "I come to visit him every Friday, whether I've got school or not - and then I go gymnastics after!" Love it 😊 I never had this confidence when I was a child. I was told not to tell anyone. Shaking the shame can be a lifetime's work. I just hope that my therapeutic children's storybook and its accompanying adult guide might play a small role in helping children and their families surmount this trauma. Well, I'll be finding out and reporting back soon enough!

We know that additional charges can be a major barrier to accessing funded childcare, particularly for low-income families. The guidance released today will help parents navigate an overly complex system, but it won't do anything to address the root cause of the problem. If the Government really wants to bring costs down for families and improve take up of existing offers, it MUST ensure providers are adequately funded. Our manifesto calls for an Independent Funding Review Body that will set funding rates based on the true cost of delivering the entitlements taking into account inflation, wage costs and importantly the cost of maintaining wage differentials across the workforce and providing training that will improve outcomes for children. To understand more about how underfunding is impacting early education and childcare in England, watch and share our video 👇 📽️ by Mill Road #childcare #earlyeducation #earlyyears
