♻ It’s day three of recycle week! ♻ Did you know that as much as 80% of the things we throw away in our rubbish bins could be recycled 🚮 By rescuing recyclable items from heading to the rubbish bin (even just one extra item a day) can make a huge difference ♻ Here are some facts around four commonly missed items in your household waste bins, that could have been recycled: 🥫 Tin cans - It takes 95% less energy to recycle aluminium cans than it does to make new ones 🔋 Batteries - Around 20,000 batteries end up in landfill sites across the UK every year 🍾 Glass bottles - If a glass bottle ends up in landfill it could take up to one million years to degrade 🔌 Electronics - An estimated155,000 tonnes of smaller household electricals are wrongly thrown in the bin each year All of these items and more can be recycled at any of our five Kent Household Waste Recycling Centres. At the recent launch of our new Sevenoaks Waste Transfer Station, guests had the chance to meet Falconer Dave and his Harris Hawk, Willow, both of whom are regular visitors at our waste transfer station sites 🦅 Birds like Willow play a vital role in deterring seagulls and other species that are drawn to waste sites in search of food. Unfortunately, these birds often transmit harmful bacteria's which pose a health risk to the public and our staff, so having Willow on board helps to ensure a safer environment for everyone ♻

Today marks the first day of operation at our new Sevenoaks Waste Transfer Station, and we'd like to say a huge good luck and well done to our teams!  🚛♻ With full operations officially underway, here are some facts about the new facility; ♻ The site spans 1.1 hectares ♻ The building measures 75m in length and 30m in width ♻ It houses eight internal waste bays We're incredibly proud of this new milestone and look forward to the positive impact it will have on waste management operations in the community. On Wednesday September 4th, Commercial Services Group, in partnership with KCC, hosted a memorable event to celebrate the grand opening of the brand-new Sevenoaks Waste Transfer Station. 🚛♻ The day was filled with celebration, education, and a strong sense of community as we marked the result of months of hard work.
