This is a major step forward bringing about the CMA powers that were architected in the Furman Review 'Unlocking Digital Competition' and enable the set up of the Digital Markets Unit to oversee companies designated with 'Special market status'. To impose conduct requirements on those SMS organisations that offers space for new digital opportunities in the UK Market, it is now the role of every business to grasp the opportunities that will be opened up. This makes President Biden's order for restrictions on Americans personal data sharing to countries of concern no surprise, or perhaps surprising that it didn't come earlier. This data includes an individuals genomic data, biometric data, personal health data, geolocation data, financial data, and certain kinds of personally identifiable information. The expressed concern is that the data is legally sold and can end up in the hands of people that then enable intrusive surveillance, scams, blackmail, and other violations of privacy.
