This October, Sandhurst Band Practice facility has taken centre stage at the Structural Timber Awards 2024, winning two awards for its design. Purpose-built at the heart of Royal Military Academy Sandhurst, this project provides flexible performance space and practice rooms for the British Army Band. With praise from the judges on the high acoustic performance of the space, the integration of sustainable cross laminated timber, and skilful blend of historical and contemporary architecture, this build has a lot to offer. On a sunny October day, Peaslake in the Surrey Hills saw a crowd of smiling cyclists! 🚴 🚴♀️   Taking inspiration from the annual Manchester and Newcastle office bike day, our London colleagues hosted their own mountain biking day for our clients and industry peers. Disney: The Castle - a musical experience that brings you closer than ever to the iconic music of Disney’s beloved animated worlds. At this magical family festival, celebrate music from Disney’s most popular animated films through captivating performances in immersive musical worlds and exhilarating concerts performed live on stage in front of the towering Disney Castle!   Our structural engineers developed the design, which was issued to suppliers and reviewed for projects such as The Lion King. Last week, our Lighting team took part in the SLL - Society of Light and Lighting's annual Ready Steady Light competition, a creative and innovative event focused on the fundamentals of design and engineering. Andy Bishop, Natalia Duffy, Ariona Bilo MArch MSLL, Roxana Rakhshani, Aimee Mcparland and Brad Sewell embraced the challenge to create an external lighting installation using a limited selection of equipment, all within a strict 180-minute timeframe. The team faced the dual challenge of working without a budget and under time constraints. Inspired by Andy Warhol’s iconic pop art depiction of tulips with a light blue background, the team aimed to create a visually striking yet minimalist display that celebrates the natural beauty of the environment, while drawing attention to the dynamic relationship of light and colour. Every year, October is observed as Breast Cancer Awareness Month, a time when communities come together to spotlight this prevalent disease. This week, our Dubai team hosted a bake sale to raise awareness and funds for this important cause. Last night, in collaboration with NewcastleGateshead Initiative, we hosted a seminar on the next stage in the evolution of Sustainable Smart Societies held at The Core Newcastle Helix. Steven Fry-Harris, IT and AV Associate Director and Dr Olli Jones Jones, Sustainability Associate Director delved into how data is being harnessed to shape the development of our cities, regenerate our economies, environment and public health. As Olli mentioned, what steps can we take today to build a better society for tomorrow? Thank you to all our guests. The discussions during and after the session highlighted the expertise in the room and our collective ability to drive change.

Recently, our #netzerocarbon experts in Poland Wojtek Stec, Michał Wójcik Anna Lewczuk and Kamil Feret collaborated with PLGBC Polish Green Building Council to host an interactive webinar focused on achieving net zero buildings.   Our speakers shared insights into the current landscape and provided real-world examples of how to reduce operational and embodied carbon.  The key takeaway from the session was clear: to deliver buildings with the lowest carbon footprint, we must move beyond standard design approaches. There’s no single solution or perfect recipe for an energy-efficient building - the path to decarbonisation is about accumulating savings over time. If you missed the webinar, don't worry!
