Excellent news on this Liverpool scheme, in close proximity to our head office. We're delighted to have seen it receive unanimous planning approval and to be part of the strong team who'll be now taking the project forward. #WeAreCurtins #BuildingABetterFuture

The Liverpool City Council's planning committee unanimously approved Jarron Developments' application to build a 16-story, H-shaped "Metalworks" scheme on the corner of Vauxhall Road and Leeds Street. The 401-unit development, designed by Falconer Chester Hall, will include 396 flats and 5 townhouses on a half-acre plot. While some concerns were raised about limited light in courtyard-facing apartments, the council chair stated the area "is crying out for development" and that refusal would send the "wrong message to developers." The £110 million build-to-rent project will feature a rooftop garden with a running track, a residents' gym, cinema room, and commercial space. Construction will commence after demolition of a former public house on the site. The Metalworks scheme was acquired by Jarron Developments in 2023 after the previous developer, Pumpfields Regeneration Company, fell into administration. The project team includes EDGE Consulting Engineers, #ALT, Curtins, Proximity, E3P, and GIA Surveyors, with Turley as the planning consultants. Read more: [https://lnkd.in/ewjm-4rb] Place North West

Brent Cross mega project Big thanks to PCE Limited and Galliford Try to have a tour of the huge resi project by Related Argent last week. Was stunned by the scale and quality of this huge residential project in North London. The construction methods of the multitude of high-rise urban dwelling units varied from traditional RC, Hybrid CLT-concrete and DfMA precast was very interesting. Personally I have a love for DfMA/MMC design/construction having worked on landmark projects in both commercial, residential and healthcare so was great to see Twinwall, Deltabeams, CLT slabs and double height columns in full effect! Looking forward to more high-rise projects with Curtins PCE Limited Galliford Try Peikko Group Corporation in the near future. Exciting times for this industry. #highrise #tallbuildings #DfMA #MMC

🚀 Business Leaders Unite to Drive Social Mobility and Break Down Barriers 🚀 Business leaders from across key industries gathered for the first meeting of 2025 of The Purpose Coalition’s Business Leadership Advisory Council, hosted at Barclays UK headquarters. This pivotal session, convened by The Purpose Coalition’s Chair, Rt Hon. Justine Greening, and hosted by Kirstie Mackey OBE, Managing Director of Citizenship UK & Europe at Barclays, focused on shaping the direction of social mobility efforts in the context of today’s evolving political landscape. In a year marked by economic and political uncertainty, the Council set out three core themes for 2025: Place, Health, and Partnerships - key areas for fostering equitable opportunities across the UK. The Business Leadership Advisory Council unites senior leaders from across sectors, including energy, transport, defence, hospitality, financial services, healthcare, retail, utilities, technology, and communications. These industries are pioneering the integration of social mobility strategies into their operations and driving positive change for employees, customers, and communities. Rt Hon Justine Greening, Chair of The Purpose Coalition, said: “We are at a crucial moment, where companies must lead the way in breaking down barriers to opportunity. Yesterday, I had the privilege of attending the "Unlocking Potential Through Partnership" event at the House of Commons, hosted by the Liverpool John Moores University, and Liverpool Hope University in partnership with The Purpose Coalition. It was a fantastic opportunity to meet new people and reconnect with some familiar faces. In the place where pivotal decisions about our future are made, we discussed how partnerships between business and education can improve social mobility and break down barriers to quality employment in the Liverpool city region. I can relate to the challenges in the region, as I grew up here in a particularly economically disadvantaged area in a working-class family and was the first in my family to attend university. The event encouraged me to reflect on the invaluable opportunities I received through enterprise and outreach initiatives, and work experience opportunities supported by exceptional leaders and mentors. These experiences allowed me to go to university and travel the world, igniting my passion for the people profession and enabling me to pursue a job I truly love! The dedication and drive of Rt Hon. Justine Greening regarding social mobility and creating opportunities for young people are truly inspiring. Curtins strives to make a difference in this area by curating opportunities in our local communities through partnerships in education, from primary education all the way to collaborations with local universities. Given the challenges in our skills-short industry, there is always more we can do, and partnerships are the key to unlocking that, so it was encouraging to see so many people united in this mission. #breakingdownbarriers #thepurposecoalition

Our presentation with Airedale General Hospital and Hive Projects on RAAC remediation is the focus of a five-page spread in the IHEEM (The Institute of Healthcare Engineering and Estate Management) Health Estate Journal, highlighting the potential issues of RAAC, the challenges of remediation within a live hospital environment and spotlighting lessons learned at the hospital as it safely and effectively deals with the presence of RAAC. The presentation and subsequent article share expertise on the topic from Curtins’ engineers Andrew Buckley, Design Director, and Associate Oliver Organ – noted to be “considered a leading engineer in RAAC.” Co-presenting with them were Richard Burgin – an “industry leader” in RAAC and Estates Lead at Airedale NHS Foundation Trust, and Chris Waine, Project Director at Hive Projects. ‘The Curtins Approach’ to investigating, assessing and developing solutions for RAAC is outlined in the article, with examples from Airedale to illustrate solutions. Through Curtins’ targeted assessments and remediation, the RAAC repair programme has been brought forward from the 2030 completion target to 2028. Delighted to share that the new Mental Health Unit at Dorothy Pattison Hospital has now opened. 🏥 The project has replaced a former renal unit with a single-storey facility that specialises in care for older patients and dementia. Long before our structural engineering team were involved, our environmental and geotechnical engineers were onsite conduct their Phase 1 and 2 investigations, coal mining risk assessments, stabilisation for mine workings and an earthworks strategy, which enabled the building works to progress. With a growing need for dementia care in the UK, we're proud to have been part of the team to deliver this new facility, alongside Gilling Dod Architects and Kier Construction. #wearecurtins #buildingabetterfuture #healthcare #environmentalengineering https://lnkd.in/erzHZPr4
