Together with East Midlands Combined County Authority (EMCCA), we were delighted to lead the second of two launch events introducing our Early Stage Angel Investment Fund at BioCity Nottingham. Our speakers included Claire Ward, Mayor of the East Midlands (via video) D2N2 Local Enterprise Partnership Board Member and our host Glenn Crocker, Lewis Stringer of British Business Bank, Sarah King of Obu and Fred Soneya of our Fund Manager Haatch. The event was MC'd by Nicola Swaney of East Midlands Combined County Authority and was attended by over 50 delegates. The purpose of the Fund is to stimulate investment and growth in ‘early stage’ companies – those that have been trading between six and 24 months, that are based in Derby, Derbyshire, Nottingham or Nottinghamshire. The total value of the Fund is £8 million. The aim is that, over the longer term, these funds will be re-invested in the programme, to catalyse investment and growth for further early stage companies. A huge thank you to our host, speakers, MC and to all those who attended. We're looking forward to seeing the fund come to fruition supporting local businesses! Earlier this month, the D2N2 Local Enterprise Partnership team and functions transitioned into the East Midlands Combined County Authority (EMCCA). We caught up with Scott Knowles DL, Chief Executive at East Midlands Chamber (Derbyshire, Leicestershire, Nottinghamshire) and D2N2 Local Enterprise Partnership Board Member, and invited him to share his reflections on this move. Scott said: “The Chamber was right there at the beginning of the LEP concept in 2010, becoming the ‘managing employer’ of D2N2 LEP, when for a while that was a single individual! Local Enterprise Partnerships (LEPs) have had an essential role in the last 14+ years, being a conduit for how funds have been deployed from the centre for use locally, to have the strongest impact on the greatest number of people and businesses, providing leverage and pump priming for capital projects that otherwise would not have happened, and providing a service to the wider public / private sector LEP partnership in regard to research and economic intelligence to ensure sound economic decisions are made with the limited funds from the centre into the two counties and cities of Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire. Working very closely with the Chamber, on the delivery of the D2N2 Growth Hub, partnering with our world class universities, the private and voluntary sectors, D2N2 Local Enterprise Partnership has steered the business support landscape and pioneered enduring initiatives such as widespread decarbonisation plans for business, championed the development of skills strategies to address the acute skills shortage across the cities and counties and embraced the potential of hydrogen as a low carbon fuel source via East Midlands Hydrogen. The capital projects supported by D2N2 Local Enterprise Partnership are legion – from essential transport infrastructure programmes, to addressing digital shortcomings in rural parts of the counties to supporting the development of the tourism and leisure offer for visitors. The D2N2 Local Enterprise Partnership team have worked superbly across this era, often invisible to some, to deliver true economic benefit for #Derby, #Derbyshire, #Nottingham and #Nottinghamshire. With our East Midlands Combined County Authority (EMCCA) in place, I’m excited about what our region can now achieve, and I’d like to take this opportunity to wish our former D2N2 Local Enterprise Partnership colleagues well in their new roles in EMCCA.” 👉 Read more here https://bit.ly/3xqUL6m Will Morlidge Nicola Swaney Fiona Baker Tom Goshawk Lana Jay Galyer David Williams MBE DL Mark Rogers Damien Dacey Fran Collingham Rich Dawson James Stone Amanda Mays Richard Grice Richard Blackmore Ian Bates Lucy Robinson

We are pleased to announce that the D2N2 Local Enterprise Partnership staff team has joined the East Midlands Combined County Authority (EMCCA). D2N2 Local Enterprise Partnership was established in 2010, alongside over 30 other LEPs across the country, with the purpose of driving local economic development in our region. As part of the devolution deal agreed with government that established EMCCA, the LEP’s board agreed that its staff team and functions would be incorporated into the EMCCA to deliver a unified approach to tackling the region’s challenges and to lift our region. All 20 D2N2 Local Enterprise Partnership staff have now joined the EMCCA, to support the work to improve the lives of everyone living and working in Derby, Derbyshire, Nottingham and Nottinghamshire, through delivering improvements in transport, housing, skills and adult education, and net zero. Earlier today, the LEP team joined EMCCA colleagues at Derby City Council’s offices for an interactive onboarding session covering EMCCA’s strategic framework, delivery plan and core values of the organisation. Mark Rogers, interim Chief Executive of EMCCA, said: “We’re absolutely delighted to welcome LEP staff to the EMCCA. It’s an important step forward in growing organisational capacity and supporting our devolution journey that’s seen powers move from Westminster to the East Midlands where we can make the right decisions for the people we serve. “The move means the expertise, knowledge and experience that supports business growth, investment opportunities and partnership working is in one place where we can make a real difference to our region.” Will Morlidge, Chief Executive of D2N2 LEP, said: "I'm delighted that the LEP team is joining the Combined Authority. We're extremely proud of the work we've done over the last 13 years, and joining EMCCA means that across a whole range of issues we can do more, even bigger, even better things that support our region." The D2N2 Local Enterprise Partnership Board, which provides strategic leadership for the LEP, will be in place until the end of this year. No question that East Midlands Mayor Claire Ward and the East Midlands Combined County Authority have taken on a big challenge with the task of lifting the economy across #Derbyshire #Derby #Nottinghamshire and #Nottingham through investment in #transport #homes #skills and #netzero . No question, either, that their efforts have suddenly been powered up in a big way with the transfer into EMCCA of the hugely experienced team from D2N2 Local Enterprise Partnership . For more than a decade, they’ve been delivering increasingly effective interventions in key areas of the regional economy, developing a great reputation for strong partnerships and getting the job done. EMCCA and Mayor Claire are still building the team, but with the D2N2 team on board and more than £4bn available to the region, there’s every reason to be positive about some serious progress. Becky R. is Marketing Director at Roadgas Ltd, a local Small / Medium-sized Enterprise (SME) that supplies compressed and liquified green gas refuelling infrastructure and equipment for dispensing alternative fuels into the heavy transport sector. In this article, Becky explains why Roadgas Ltd is proud to be a member of the East Midlands Hydrogen Consortium and shares her thoughts on the importance of low carbon growth for our region’s future. Becky says: "The opportunity for my business to join East Midlands Hydrogen, the largest inland hydrogen cluster in the UK with a unique collaboration of over 60 public and private partners and businesses, large and small, across all aspects of the hydrogen value chain, was a given. "I believe this will be a game-changer for our region. The sheer potential of this is unprecedented. We have a truly unique cluster of energy generation sites, poised to drive our green energy revolution. 20 major employers have said they need more than ten terawatt-hours of hydrogen per year to decarbonise their operations and East Midlands Hydrogen Consortium members are working to ensure as much of that is generated and stored in the #EastMidlands as possible. "I’m very excited about the opportunity for #hydrogen in our region. The hydrogen economy is a sector that’s moving through its innovation and development stage at the moment, providing the potential for at least 9,000 high-skilled jobs and opportunities in a wide range of organisations across our region over the coming years. As the Director of an SME, I’m passionate about promoting and supporting smaller organisations in the engineering sector and its supply chain, as we don’t always get the focus that the larger global engineering companies in our region receive. “I think the future looks very positive for Roadgas Ltd. We are fully focused on #decarbonisation, one of the key priorities for our region and we’ll continue to champion this agenda. In my view, we could and should make the East Midlands the hydrogen centre for the UK and I’m confident that East Midlands Hydrogen, with the support of our new East Midlands Mayor, Claire Ward, will gear up to lead the way.” Will Morlidge Sally Brewis Nicola Swaney Kelly Manders Philip Canning Christopher Barrow Faye McAnulla Huw Sullivan Rachel Quinn Dan Cooper Chart.PR MCIPR Roger Mendonca Tom Newman-Taylor Katie Greenhalgh David Morris Michael Wayne Bexton Michael Gallagher Ken Harrison 👉 Read more here https://bit.ly/3KB99Mh

As part of our ‘Spotlight on our Board’ series, we’ve recorded a video with our D2N2 Local Enterprise Partnership Board Member, Natasha V Johnson, Director of Partnerships at Global Entrepreneurs UK. Natasha is our Lead Board member for inclusion. In the film, Natasha talks about the importance of #inclusion, and explains why we’re setting up a new Inclusion Steering Group, and our Head of External Affairs, Nicola Swaney, explains the context for this programme of work. Natasha says: “I’m passionate about inclusion, having worked in the non-profit sector for almost 25 years. I work developing projects to support some of the most marginalised groups, addressing food poverty, developing skills, supporting digital inclusion and supporting young people into employment. As part of my inclusion work with D2N2 Local Enterprise Partnership, we have recently set up an inclusion steering group, made up of a group of experts from around the region. We’ll be looking at how we can ensure inclusive growth is at the heart of all strategy in our region. As a businesswoman, entrepreneur, mother and grandmother, I understand and empathise with many aspects of inclusion, which is why I’m proud to be playing a key part in this.” Will Morlidge Fiona Baker Tony Tinley Becky R.
