Datamaran turned 10 years old this June. Our CEO and Co-Founder Marjella Lecourt-Alma has faced many storms navigating the Datamaran ship to get to #SmartESG. "When Marjella began to scout out for-profit opportunities, her more commercial mindset didn’t enjoy universal support. But her view at the time, she told me when we spoke recently, was that a new sector of the economy—and a new category of value creation—is “not real if people aren’t willing to pay money for it.” That, in turn, led people in the not-for-profit world to ask her: “Are you just in it for the money?”" 🤔 Spoiler alert: she wasn't. The EU's Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD) is a game-changer for global sustainability reporting! The CSRD mandates detailed sustainability reporting from approximately 60,000 companies, including 10,000 non-EU entities, based on the European Sustainability Reporting Standards (ESRS). Requirements include an annual double-materiality assessment and the identification of material impacts, risks & opportunities (IROs), rigorous data transparency, and third-party assurance. By setting these rigorous standards, the directive impacts companies beyond the EU by establishing new norms for global corporate governance. The European Commission has tasked the Committee of European Auditing Oversight Bodies (CEAOB) with developing non-binding guidelines for sustainability reporting assurance - to outline procedures for assurance opinions. Recognizing the impact that these guidelines will have on our clients, we have contributed to and participated in the consultation process.
