We are delighted to announce that the revised design for our Birmingham Smithfield Markets project has been unanimously approved by the City Council’s Planning Committee. This scheme, a collaboration between Lendlease and Birmingham City Council, has been brought to life with the creative input of local artist-run multiverse EASTSIDE PROJECTS LIMITED, graphic designer Mark El Katib, landscape architect TODDLONGSTAFFE-GOWAN LIMITED , structural engineers Price & Myers, environmental engineers Max Fordham LLP, theatre specialists Charcoalblue, and project managers Ridge and Partners LLP. The wider masterplan has been expertly led by  Prior + Partners with landscape design by Field Operations. Our June newsletter is a special edition focussing on our work in Belgium. Earlier this month it was announced that, in collaboration with noAarchitecten and Aslı Çiçek, we are winners in the international competition to design the expansion of SMAK Gent. Our work with Hasselt University and Provincie Limburg to rehabilitate the Hasselt beguinage as an architecture faculty took a step forward with a laying of the foundation stone. And we look back at David's teaching at the Katholieke Universiteit Leuven - Department of Architecture, Urbanism and Planning also in Gent. Our Ice Cream Factory project in Devon for clients Oona Bannon and Russell Pinch of furniture designers Pinch is the cover story of June's issue of House & Garden. Selected as Project of the Year in the H&G 2024 Design Awards, the 10 page spread with words by Malaika Byng and photography by Michael Sinclair tells the story of a successful client collaboration in creating a rural family home. The project continues another 15 year collaboration with artist Suzanne Redstone and consultant Peter Redstone on the conversion of their former dairy farm into a live work community of which the Ice Cream Factory is a part. Suzanne and Peter's own house across the road, the Cowshed, won the Architects’ Journal 2023 #ManserMedal for best house in the UK.
