And our purpose is clear: to champion, entertain and bring together our communities. We have a thriving genealogy community (Findmypast), a trusted technology solutions business (Brightsolid) and a global marketing agency (Fifth Ring). From our long-established media brand, Energy Voice, an influential authority in the global energy conversation, we launched E-FWD, a membership organisation where the industry’s forward thinkers are coming together to drive the movement to secure, clean energy. We have the influence and ambition to make a real difference towards tackling the critical issues of our time. Assets and knowledge built over decades of supporting high growth, innovative businesses allow us to make bold, long-term visionary decisions. It is an integral part of the community that has had a transformative impact across Tayside and today, #Ninewells Hospital in Dundee celebrates its 50th Anniversary. Over the years, our news titles have reported on life at Ninewells including all the major milestones. The welcoming of Mrs Jeanie Stewart in January 1974 - the first female patient to be cared for at the new hospital, the delivery of its first whole body scanner following an overnight road journey from London in 1986 and the safe arrival of ‘Millennium Twins’, Jay and Jordan just some of the many moments chronicled over the years. And it was on this day in 1974 that Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother officially opened the hospital and medical school during a Royal visit where she met with staff and patients, before drawing back the curtains on the dedication plaque and being gifted a portrait.   Over the years, the Thomson family trust - The Northwood Charitable Trust has supported Ninewells and the medical school directly and indirectly with a number of initiatives, including through the Archie Foundation with funding for the new children’s twin theatre suite that opened in 2022 and support for the Teapot Trust, a mental health charity that provides support for children and families coping with chronic conditions by delivering art therapy at the hospital. Our Chairman Christopher Thomson has paid tribute to the teams at Ninewells. He said: “On behalf of DC Thomson and The Northwood Charitable Trust, I would like to thank the many extraordinary people who work at, and support, Ninewells Hospital for everything that they have achieved over the last fifty years. Many thousands of lives in our communities have begun, been improved or saved at Ninewells and it has been renowned as a pioneer in many areas, including in its role as a teaching hospital. We are very pleased to have been able to support Ninewells and the University of Dundee’s School of Medicine over the decades and we look forward to continuing that relationship for many years to come”. As part of its celebrations, Ninewells has been receiving birthday messages from around the country, including a very special greeting from one of Auchenshoogle’s most famous sons… NHS Tayside

After a chance discovery in the basement of the Discovery Print site, our archive team uncovered a hidden treasure: a collection of classic TV adverts for our iconic brands Jackie, Annabel, Bunty, and The People's Friend.   Dating back to the 1950s and 60s, these films are some of the earliest surviving Scottish commercial TV ads, showcasing remarkable technical and advertising innovations that made a lasting impact on viewers.   Our archivist and film expert, Barry Sullivan, will delve into these fascinating adverts at a special film event in collaboration with the National Library of Scotland at Kelvin Hall, Glasgow.   📅 Join Barry this Wednesday from 6:00-7:30pm to explore our impact on advertising history.   🎟 Get your tickets here: https://lnkd.in/eJSCwbTh
