Today, we welcomed the new French Defence Attaché, Rear Admiral Luc Raynal. Accompanied by the Deputy Air and Space Attaché, Col Emmanuel Emond, they visited Headquarters, the Joint Services Command and Staff College (JSCSC), Defence Centre for Military Capability Integration, Defence Futures and met with five French Course Members currently on the Advanced Command and Staff Course. The main aim of the visit was to reinvigorate the invaluable relationship between JSCSC and the courses it delivers, and their French equivalents.

At the start of the month, we welcomed US counterparts from the US European Command (EUCOM). Command Sergeant Major (CSM) Robert V Abernethy, the Command Senior Enlisted Leader (CSEL) was briefed on how we deliver professional military education while visiting our groups/colleges, including: ◾The Joint Services and Command Staff College and the courses delivered, with a focus on HCSC and ACSC. ◾Intermediate Divisions’ command and staff training, as delivered by the Royal Navy and RAF Divisions, and the Land Command and Staff College. ◾Learning Capability and Development group, including an update on Project CODEX and progress with the UK Senior Enlisted Course. ◾Defence College for Military Capability Integration, highlighting the Defence Cyber Academy, the Space Academy and technical courses attended by US service personnel. During the visit CSM Abernethy also met with US directing staff and students currently on courses.

Members of the Omani Joint Command and Staff College have visited the Defence Academy following the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MOU) earlier in the year. Over their 2-day visit they discussed the delivery of the Advanced Command and Staff Course, technical professional military education and wargaming, and met with a delegation of Omanis currently studying and working with us. As part of National Inclusion Week, Defence Academy personnel were invited to a series of workshops, hosted by our academic partner Cranfield University. Commodore Steve Prest (retired) presented ‘The case for inclusive leadership, or to give it its proper title: leadership,’ examining how people experience society and organisations in diverse ways, and how small things can add up over time to shape the workplace landscape. Laura Callahan , CEO of Willow HR explored the subject of personal identities at work, and the complexity of workplace diversity, before the series culminated with a presentation from QinetiQ's Jillian Hoderial. Jillian discussed her recent experience of winning the NATO Women and Girls in Science competition, the opportunities that she gained from it, and offered advice and pointers for women and girls in science and engineering.
