We deliver courses designed to unlock the cognitive skills of our students to expand their intellectual horizons and capacity. Our portfolio of long and short courses covers leadership, strategy, science & technology, and business skills. Our vision is to be recognised as an education provider of choice for defence, security, government and beyond.

  • Course members completing their Advanced Command and Staff Course (ACSC) have marked their graduation with through a series of award presentations🏆 This year’s course included 100 overseas course members and the first from Burkina Faso. On completion of the course, international course members are presented with a bronze cormorant pin badge, as a memento of their studies. On the final day of ACSC 27, displays from the RAF Red Arrows Aerobatic Display Team and the RAF Falcons Parachute Display Team🪂🛫, preceded the prizegiving where Major General Salah Bin Abdul Rahman al Harbi, Chief of the Military Organisation, Saudi Arabian National Guard was Guest of Honour.   • Major General Peter Rowell recently signed a Letter of Cooperation (LOC) with Major General Abdullah S. Alanazi, Commander of the King Abdullah bin Abdul Aziz Command and Staff College alongside Major General Saleh Bin Abdulrahman Al Harbi, Chief of Military Operations, Saudi Arabia National Guard. The signing marks a significant step forward in strengthening the professional relationship between our respective institutions. The Defence Academy aims to mutually enhance Joint Professional Military Education through connections with select global counterparts. These collaborations involve the sharing of best practices, providing support, and exchanging subject matter expertise, and are formalised using a non-legal document called a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) or LOC. Other recent MOUs have been signed with the Omani Academy of Strategic Defence Studies and the Japanese Joint Staff College.

  • The Senior Strategic Leadership Programme (SSLP) recently welcomed 24 delegates from 20 nations across the world🌎 Hosted and delivered by the International Group, SSLP features talks from leading UK subject matter experts and academics, covering: ◾leadership paradigms ◾the strategic context ◾thinking skills ◾ethics ◾international law ◾decision-making ◾strategy development In this latest SSLP, students were treated to a keynote speech from Air Chief Marshal The Lord Peach along with visits to the Houses of Parliament, No.10 and MOD Main Building.   • The Worshipful Company of Educators and the Company of Entrepreneurs recognise three members of personnel for outstanding work in their respective fields 👏 The Worshipful Company of Educators’ Award for Best Educator 2023 was presented to Squadron Leader Mike Kelman, Intermediate Officer Development Course Manager, RAF Division. The Worshipful Company of Educators Highly Commended Award was presented Jacqueline Seviour of the Defence Leadership and Business Group. The Company of Entrepreneurs’ Award this year’s Best Entrepreneur was presented to Mr Liam Easton, Weapons, Ordnance, Munitions and Explosives (WOME) Engineering School’s Light Weapons Wing.   • The Defence Academy are delighted to announce that an Apache helicopter has permanently landed in the Defence College for Military Capability Integration (DCMCI). The Apache AH-Mk1 🚁will primarily be used by the Defence Airworthiness & AeroSystems Technology School (DAATS) as a practical teaching aid for students. They will gain first-hand experience, cementing lessons learnt in the classroom by military staff and DCMCI’s academic provider, Cranfield University. Housed in DCMCI’s Technology Hub, the Apache will be used alongside a Cobra AH-1 for students to compare the two contemporary platforms in a variety of different areas. The Project Officer was Wg Cdr Paul Lilly, OC DAATS, and it took approximately two years to complete, requiring joint effort and collaboration from: ◼️Leonardo UK ◼️Joint Aviation Command ◼️the Apache Delivery Team in Defence Equipment & Support ◼️the British Army Air Corps ◼️DCMCI ◼️Cranfield University ◼️Serco We look forward to inspiring the current and future generation of students with this fantastic, new military teaching aid!

  • 🏆Education and entrepreneurship have been celebrated in an event hosted by the Chief Executive and Commandant of the Defence Academy, Major General Peter Rowell. In partnership with livery companies the Worshipful Company of Educators and the Company of Entrepreneurs, three members of personnel have been recognised for outstanding work in their respective fields. 📚The Worshipful Company of Educators’ Award for Best Educator 2023, was presented to Squadron Leader Mike Kelman, Intermediate Officer Development (IOD) Course Manager, RAF Division. Sqn Ldr Kelman was recognised as being “committed to developing and delivering the best education opportunities across the RAF Division IOD Programme”. As a course manager for the IOD 3 course (pre-requisite for promotion to Squadron Leader), Sqn Ldr Kelman re-shaped the course to maximise the RAF Senior Leadership team intent, introducing breadth and depth around wider political and military strategic challenges. He also proactively engaged with external stakeholders and academic providers to contribute towards new critical Space and Cyber learning. Speaking at the ceremony, Master Educator Catherine McGuinness, of the Worshipful Company of Educators said: “It was a particular pleasure to visit the Defence Academy, and to celebrate the achievements of the Defence Academy Best Educator 2023 prize-winner. Squadron Leader Mike Kelman is an educator who exemplifies all that is best about the Defence Academy”. Last month Jacqueline Seviour of the Defence Leadership and Business Group (DLaB) was presented with a highly commended award from the Worshipful Company of Educators by Deputy Commandant, Commodore Matt Solly. Miss Seviour’s commendation cited her as an “inspirational educator, and highly innovative learning designer who has conceived, designed and delivered a range of hugely successful courses.” 💭Also recognised for his achievements was Mr Liam Easton from the Weapons, Ordnance, Munitions and Explosives (WOME) Engineering School’s Light Weapons Wing. Mr Easton was awarded this year’s Best Entrepreneur Award for his “passion, knowledge, and professionalism that has significantly contributed to operations, not just for defence, but with Partners Across Government as well.” Maj Gen Rowell concluded the ceremony by thanking all those attending and supporting the awards, noting the impact that staff at the Defence Academy were making. He said: “Celebrating the rich and diverse talent of the Defence Academy is all the sweeter when doing so with external partners. My warmest congratulations to the recipients for their awards, and my sincere thanks to the Worshipful Company of Educators and The Company of Entrepreneurs for their support in recognising and championing our personnel.”
